Hi Folks

Winter Fluid is coming on December 4.

What does it mean in theory? Well right about now, the main article space is just over 600 pixels, and thats fixed, and the right rail size is fixed too. After the change, this will scale with your window size.

Now, in theory, everything should go smooth... but we have a lot of complicated templates on the wiki, and we need an army to make sure that everything is working right afterwards

You don't have to eat CSS and Poop Wikicode to help, you just need a browser and to be able to spot things that just don't look right, and report them.

Please join our patrols, and ask not what your wiki can do for you, but what you can do for your wiki. Thank you. Agent c (talk) 22:06, December 2, 2013 (UTC)

I should be free most of the day on the 4th. I can definitely put some time aside to help patrol the wiki and fix any (possible) mistakes as I see them. ForGaroux Some Assembly Required! 22:11, December 2, 2013 (UTC)

You can check on the Elder Scrolls wiki how it's going to look. On a PC, the screen gets much wider, so there's more room for content. Our infobox keeps its width of 240px. One of the issues could become the clear template used on quest pages, that pushes the chart down the infobox. With the new layout some clears may not be needed anymore. I just hope it works better than it did on my personal website. I have a huuuge screen for my laptop, and when I switched over to a fluid layout, it stretched everything out to the point that it all looked weird. ForGaroux Some Assembly Required! 22:24, December 2, 2013 (UTC)

What kind of problems should we be expecting? --Kastera (talk) 22:18, December 2, 2013 (UTC)

Possible problem with tables, so you can check the overview pages where they are used a lot. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 22:20, December 2, 2013 (UTC)

I'll do what I can I guess. I'll be online sometime between 3pm EDT and 1am EDT. VictorFaceMonitor Might I Say You're Looking Fit As a Fiddle! Talk to me! 22:19, December 2, 2013 (UTC)

I'll be on the morning and night that day (Eastern US time). I don't know how much help I can be besides keeping an eye open, though. Paladin117>>iff bored; 22:22, December 2, 2013 (UTC)

I'll be sure to check things out on the early side when the change hits! 69.l25 (talk) 22:22, December 2, 2013 (UTC)

I expect the pages with few information (characterpages of older fallouts etc.) are gonna look prety silly now. Maybe we should search a solution for this? Greets 22:27, December 2, 2013 (UTC)

I will do my best but I have several other commitments that day that will minimize my active window. That being said, I will do what I can. FollowersApocalypseLogomorituri te salutamus 22:29, December 2, 2013 (UTC)

Count me in, I'll be on the lookout doing what I can throughout the day, mainly mid morn to afternoon and whenever I can later. --TribalWisdom(colour) Talk! 22:32, December 2, 2013 (UTC)

Well, I mostly come here every day, so I can look out for things that look wrong, like I'm always doing. Do I have to do complex coding? I'm not good with that sort of stuff. Leea (talk) 23:00, December 2, 2013 (UTC)

you just have to be able to spot that something doesn't look right, those who can do the coding can take over from there. Agent c (talk) 00:44, December 3, 2013 (UTC)

I dunno if I will be available, I'm working most of the day if not all of it, will try to lend a hand. Detroit lions Hawk da Barber 2013 - BSHU Graduate 23:01, December 2, 2013 (UTC)

I dunno how active I'll be on the 4th (student teaching and whatnot) but I'll keep ya posted on what I spot. Richie9999 (talk) 00:55, December 3, 2013 (UTC)

I should be free Wednesday to help patrol, if not I can still help morning to midday BST User Talk:ArchmageNeko Archmage NekoNeko's Haunt 02:08, December 3, 2013 (UTC)

I've been real busy irl as of late, but I'll do what I can. Appreciate the heads up. Enclavesymbol 11:59, December 3, 2013 (UTC)

I'll be home from Uni at about 4pm MST. I can be on until 6pm MST, then I have an eye appointment. After that I'll be on fairly late, as I have no class. Count me in. --TwoBearsHigh-Fiving Intercom01 16:14, December 3, 2013 (UTC)

When I'm available I'll definitely do some patrolling. Since this will effect charts, We are gonna need to watch most of the major list pages, including the Bug charts as well as many of the project pages. ---bleep196- (talk) 01:14, December 4, 2013 (UTC)

You know in Google Chrome, when the page zooms in a bit and everything looks different? This is what it's like, now. I even tried messing with the page zoom control at first to see if I'd accidentally knocked it. The font looks thicker, and some other things are bigger and smaller. Just let me know what you need ~ Once the fix is established of course. I am not a tech guy but I can edit once I understand the parameters.

Things to check[]

Almost all of the full-width elements here are using width:100%. Navboxes, quotations, stats tables, etc. should all be fine. What we should keep an eye our for is:

  • All tables using the css class=va-table-full. This is currently fixed at 670px. I will change this to 100% so it has dynamic width for fluid. There are no other css classes that use a fixed full width.
  • Assorted tables or charts that do *not* use the css class=va-table-full, but are set with in-line styling for 650~670px. I do not know if there are any. There may be some.
  • Usage of {{clear}} near infoboxes or other side-floated elements. We need to make certain that we take great care in removing these. I suggest we compile a list of representative instances and thoroughly check them in multiple resolutions before we remove them. As far as I know, the most common screen size is still 1024px wide. Even those with wider screens often do not use their browsers full width. At this point, I'd say if the page looks OK at 1024px wide, remover the clear, but if the content is still too bunched, or tables overrun their margins, leave them.

Notice of CSS changes[]

  • Table class va-table-full changed from width:670px; to width:100%;. Please look at any full-width tables for rendering issues and list them in the log section below.

Log[]

Fluid is now live

On my work in progress for the Fallout Bible subject index, the tables are uneven at high window sizes. Agent c (talk) 12:08, December 4, 2013 (UTC)

I've noticed the galleries got smaller compared to the pages, I suggest we make them "widths=220" when there are only up to 4 images.-- Greets 10:57, December 4, 2013 (UTC)

As was expected, the tables aren't all as wide, and now some tables got more wide, you have sometimes a small pillar of text due to < br > use inside a very wide cell. What should we do about this? -- Greets 11:30, December 4, 2013 (UTC)

The lines under the section headers also don't always follow the page width -- Greets 11:30, December 4, 2013 (UTC)

Has been fixed it seems

Images using the THUMB option seem to display in strange spaces... Use of the clear tag seems to resolve. Agent c (talk) 12:18, December 4, 2013 (UTC)

Inventory tables - At certain points, extending the window makes them smaller, before jumping bigger again (Observed on Red Lucy Agent c (talk) 12:26, December 4, 2013 (UTC)

Div statements need to be either removed or modified. Especially with bookends as they throw the page out of whack. My screen resolution is 1920 x 1080, so I'm not sure if this is such a problem for everyone. ForGaroux Some Assembly Required! 12:54, December 4, 2013 (UTC)

It appears that there is an issue with the social media buttons overlapping page elements that were underneath them prior to this change. You may see that here: SocialMediaOverlap ForGaroux Some Assembly Required! 12:58, December 4, 2013 (UTC)

I don't have that. Displays normal for me. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 14:52, December 4, 2013 (UTC)
Appears to happen only on certain pages that have the Fallout logos in the upper mid-right corner. ForGaroux Some Assembly Required! 14:57, December 4, 2013 (UTC)

Looking at articles with a quote looks quite awkward, as everything is shifted absolute left except for the Quotation. We could alleviate this by allowing our Quote template to accept a parameter of direction (|left|right..etc)

Selection 070

--TwoBearsHigh-Fiving Intercom01 14:21, December 4, 2013 (UTC)

Doesn't bother me, the quotation. Sits fine where it is, in the center. Once the normal text begins, it's all aligned again. I'm thinking about the infobox now. Seems a tad small now with all that new space. Maybe widen it a notch and the text in it 1 or 2 pixels bigger? Normal text font size has also increased a bit. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 14:33, December 4, 2013 (UTC)

The text in our community messages appears messed up for me, especially in relation to the template used to display them. --Skire (talk) 23:33, December 4, 2013 (UTC)

I can back up Skire on this. Not only does the text no longer fit inside of the template headers properly, but the Spotify music player is also cut off at the very right. ForGaroux Some Assembly Required! 01:12, December 5, 2013 (UTC)
I looked at the templates and the code in source. I didn't see why it's doing this. The right rail looks a little thinner, so we may have to watch those headers in the future. As to why it's rendering the blog listing as a bulleted list, I have no idea. I'll watch it and if it's still like that I'll put in a ticket tomorrow. The Gunny  UserGunny chevrons 01:25, December 5, 2013 (UTC)

I haven't noticed much apart from the stuff stated above, but I did notice that the Sci-Fi alliance badge on the main page seems to overlap with the background. Might just need a pixel size adjustment. FollowersApocalypseLogomorituri te salutamus 07:53, December 5, 2013 (UTC)

We can't resize the alliance badge, to my knowledge. We decided to put it in the right rail, and the right rail is now 300px, too small. We'll either have to live with it, or move it probably. The Gunny  UserGunny chevrons 20:42, December 5, 2013 (UTC)
I'll try and flag down Migel at wikia about it. Agent c (talk) 21:54, December 5, 2013 (UTC)
I don't think it's something we should have to live with, it looks unprofessional. If they won't work to fix it then we should just remove it. FollowersApocalypseLogomorituri te salutamus 07:56, December 6, 2013 (UTC)
Well, it was our decision to move it to the 300px right rail on the front page, not wikia's. We really can't fault them for not sizing it for a place it wasn't intended to go, can we? To that end, it's not "broken", so I don't really expect them to "fix" it. We may simply have to move it to the left column where there's room for it, if we find that it can't be resized somehow. The Gunny  UserGunny chevrons 20:46, December 6, 2013 (UTC)
