Fallout games are popular partly because they have a huge content and a high replay value. This mean there are lots of quests, lot sof fights, and many situations to deal with. This is why I would suggest to allow a strategy paragraph on the wiki.

Im am aware it could cause issues because of "opinionated contributions and so on". But then, its up to wikia members to hel and fix contributions if they don't reach a certain quality level.

I am thinking for example about old fallouts. Because they are turn based, they sometimes need to have a good use of characters positions,, know what weapons are more helpful in a situation, etc.

Then you can say wikihas already informations of all sorts and all players have to do is gather them. But there are so many thhings in those games would say user cant disocver everything by himself, or think about looking into everything.

Games are entertainment, and wiki provides informations about this entertainment. I have been reading old articles on the wikia which do provide strategies, thought its not stated openly, and actually I found those articles well written and being at the level of quality a wikia can expect.

I think this could be a great add to the wiki.

The issue is that everyone has a different idea of how to play the game. One person might claim that the best way to clear out the Deathclaw Sanctuary is to go in guns blazing with Fawkes by your side. Other people might say sneaking is better. Some might prefer to play with melee weapons or stealth boys or Charon or Dogmeat or land mines et cetera et cetera. It would be literally impossible to list every single possibility because there is no "right" or "wrong" way to play a Fallout game. For linear, scripted games like Uncharted, it's easy to give a step-by-step guide on the correct way to complete a level. But for Fallout, you can literally finish a quest however you want and it would be impossible to take into account all the different styles of play when writing strategies. It's easy to claim that you can clear out the Deathclaw Sanctuary with Fawkes and an alien blaster, but what about people who have bad karma, haven't been to Vault 87 and never got the alien blaster? How does that strategy help them clear anything? I can go on but I think you get the point.
Long story short: strategy is subjective and subject to change based on the current playthrough. Yes Man defaultUser Avatar talk 11:07, January 28, 2014 (UTC)
Yes man has it in one. Fallout is not an on the rails game, there are multiple main routes with a near infinite number of variations. To post a strategy would veto declare that solution superior to others.
Ultimately, our article space is a place for fact, not opinion. The best way to deal with challenge X is not a matter of fact, it is one of opinion.
When we passé the changes to our talk page policy, I proposed we add a section to allow people to discuss the topic, much like a "talk" page. This would have been the place for it... but despite the proposers assuring us such a thing was possible and could be put in place after the policy was put into place, this has never come to fruition.
This is something I think we need to correct. Lets have a place where strategy based on an article can be discussed... even if it just means creating some headers on a talk page (one for "Page improvements" one for "Discuss the topic of the article here"). That would allow a place for strategy to fit. Agent c (talk) 11:35, January 28, 2014 (UTC)
It would require a lot of work, but perhaps strategies can be listed under a sub-page. Example being The Waters of Life/Strategy, which would appear as a link to a page of strategies for the quest under a sub-header on the parent page. Of course this raises issues as it would be hard moderating the pages and even harder verifying strategies. Alternatively people can use the forum for discussing strategies considering that's pretty much what the gameplay forums are meant for.
P.S. would also need to work out page layouts. Can't just have a bunch of random paragraphs. Translation: more work. Yes Man defaultUser Avatar talk 11:46, January 28, 2014 (UTC)

Well, that depends on the matter. Fallout series are more of an RPG than a strategic genre, so as it has been said, there are many ways to deal with the matter. Energy X 14:19, January 28, 2014 (UTC)

My problem with strategy is twofold: Our non-strategy content is not complete. I would much rather we focus on filling the base info in before branching out into strategy. Two: Strategy tips, as mentioned above, come in many flavors. It would be a complete mess and require an incredible amount of effort to get them written right and sorted out properly. Do we really have the manpower and time to enter into this kind of project? The Gunny  UserGunny chevrons 21:27, January 28, 2014 (UTC)
I can't help but agree with Gunny. Can we really be arsed to undertake this change? User OfficialLolGuy  OfficialLolGuy  Talk  Blog  21:38, January 28, 2014 (UTC)
That's exactly it. Not only would having to create a multitude of strategies for each quest/sidequest/location in the game take forever, but then you'd have to deal with the endless arguments and reverting over which strategy does and does not work. I commend you for bringing this to the forum, as it's a good discussion to have every once in a while. My opinion is in line with all above posts, but has anyone asked whether or not people actually want to look at strategies? The beauty of RPG's is discovery and exploration, figuring things out for yourself. Looking at a page basically detailing every possible way to do something is impractical and kind of takes the fun out of the game. If people are having trouble with particular areas, they can come into chat or (in the past) use the forums and/or Fallout: Answers. It simply doesn't belong here and for the amount of people who would use it, way too much time and difficulty. FollowersApocalypseLogo A Follower  Talk  08:29, January 29, 2014 (UTC)

That's what's the Strategy Wiki is for.
