Forums: Index > Wiki discussion > 69.l25 request for feedback

This is not an actual request. Rather, I’m looking for feedback—almost like the “review” forum that was proposed a few months back. Let me explain:

I was considering requesting admin rights one final time at the end of this month, March, but I’m taking a break instead. (I was recently sucked back in, however, by a small issue, which is why I’m still "active.") Now, I won’t qualify for another three months at least—probably longer since I was criticized for posting my two requests so quickly; but at the same time, I’ve done my best to improve upon any critiques from my last request in December—and any other criticisms since then. I want to know if anyone has seen any progress.

In short, I’m not making the request I was considering, and instead I’m simply looking for the feedback/comments that would have appeared: Would you say I’ve improved? What do you think I need to work on when I return? What would you say if this was an actual request?

I’ll be sure to look through everything that’s said. Thanks for reading. 69.l25 (talk) 06:06, March 16, 2014 (UTC)

Look, I know you don't think it's the most important part to being an admin, but it would be nice if you were more approachable and were a little kinder when it comes to interacting with other users. You work on your community presence and I'm sure people will be more accepting of you as an admin. --MountHail (talk) 06:32, March 16, 2014 (UTC)

69, you and I have gotten along these last few weeks and haven't had problems for months. I, and many others, know your main concern when here is the wiki. You try to better the wiki in ways that many of us don't understand. It wasn't until we talked in chat that I understood your methods. I would say you have improved a bit more than some may think. I see your compassion for Nukapedia and your willingness to help such as here. I see more for you to work on but if you give it a year or so I could see you as an Admin. Here's what I see that needs improvement...

  • What some (even myself sometimes) consider almost an invasion of privacy or something of the sorts. I was going through User:Chris the Saiyan's talk page the other night and came across you message about his rights tools. While I myself wonder when he would use them, I didn't bother because I rarely patrol/mark pages unless they are vandalized (which hasn't happened much lately). Another incident would be Energy X situation, but that was resolved rather peacefully. As of this point, these "concerns" do not really concern me much more.
  • After the incident with KingClyde and his rights reconfirmation I didn't know what to think. I didn't see the point in a rights revoking but enough time to me has passed to let me forget the incident and by the time you request rights I will not be worried of it.
  • Lastly, I am worried about your approach to people's comments and remarks. As I recall, you posted a whole chat log on your User profile to prove and show what people were saying about you. There's one thing I learned about this place.... It's the internet. People have their opinions and remarks and one thing you got to do is shrug it off and move on. The times were tough and times will be tough. But it's best to look at it and shake your head and go off.

If you could fix those (which I believe you can) you would have a Yes from me. As of now I am leaning towards a more positive Neutral. Gunslinger470/The-Gunslinger "Some say this user is a Patroller..." Some say this user used to be a Patroller... 06:46, March 16, 2014 (UTC)

You have a very rare trait in you that I relate with every time I see you work here. In a world full of people utterly unwilling to do what is necessary for fear of offending people, as well as those that do everything they can to avoid confrontation and responsibility, it is nice to see someone with the balls to actually push instead of giving when trying to get shit done. You will make enemies, and being abrasive will make others wary of your presence and ideas. So my only advice to you is to learn how to juggle tacts, so you know when to push with all your might, and when to placate the masses so they are more willing to hear you out. Especially in a community largely made up of adolescents and those just barely past adolescence.

I know that everything you do is to help this wiki, but make sure to keep in mind that there will be times when you are not appreciated, and times when you feel alone even with an entire community surrounding you. It simply cannot be helped, as people generally do not like those that make waves and upset their perception of balance. I know this is merely a wiki, but that does not make your actions here any less significant, and I hope you never get discouraged enough to the point where you might feel it is better to give up. Even during such times, you will have friends, such as myself, and I hope you can take solace in that fact and continue doing what you can to improve what you can until the time comes when everyone has to move on. Wish you the best of luck in your endeavors, and I hope I am around when your next request goes up. ForGaroux Some Assembly Required! 07:25, March 16, 2014 (UTC)

Firstly I must point out that you don't meet the requirements. You resigned your position as patroller. Whilst I like your work ethic, I am weary of the "is he staying or not" intrigue. I would find it hard to support someone who's in two minds as to whether he wants to be here or not. Agent c (talk) 13:34, March 16, 2014 (UTC)

Don't apply for adminship now, you'd fail it. One of the major problems I see is that even after all this time you're still not a steady force and, although it's improved, you keep being erratic. Like even this past week giving up the patroller rights, saying you leave, come back and now this semi-adminship request. This is not what we want for an admin. We need a stable and steady force, who breathes reliability. You don't have that. It's everyday a surprise what new thing you'll come up with and shaking up the wiki. And you've not done enough for the content this year to make the admin grade. You've set up the random image project, infobox stats project, 3rd person project and maybe I even forgot one, and you're not working actively on those projects. Your words are louder than your actions. An admin needs to edit, it's a prerequisite in my opinion. That's why I was slightly favoring LolGuy, he's showing commitment in editing and creating new pages. He has willingness to work (edit) for it and that way build up a reliable and decent reputation. You clearly still need to work on that. Once you do, you'll notice your confidence will grow and then at one point in time you know you'll pass an adminship request, even without having to ask others for it if you're good to go. That's how I see it. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 17:50, March 16, 2014 (UTC)
This is what I was hoping to see. What you've said is helpful, and it's what I'd like to believe makes an admin, but it hardly matches reality. A "stable and steady force, who breathes reliability" is what I want to see in an admin too, and it's why I'm not requesting rights myself, but this mentality goes completely out the window once someone passes a request. We have admins who come here whenever the heck they want to make consitant edits for a few days, and then they just disappear, which is hardly reliable. I'm thankful to everyone who's added feedback so far, but the one thing I'd add is that it'd be helpful to apply these standards for admins to people who are actually admins. 69.l25 (talk) 18:35, March 16, 2014 (UTC)

My vote will still be what it was last time. Just keep doing what you do best. Edit. Be consistent. Jspoelstra offers the best advice here. --Skire (talk) 18:05, March 16, 2014 (UTC)

You practice what you preach, I'll give you that, and it's actually made me change my overall opinion. You've resigned your rights in twice now, and by doing so you've stuck to your position that those unable to use their rights should hand them in. I respect that you've stuck to your principles, even though I don't particularly agree with your rationale behind it. I wholeheartedly believe that the person 'behind the keyboard' is someone very different from what the general population of Nukapedia perceives him/her to be. The main problems, I think, lie within that perception. I've learned over the years that you can;t discount perception, despite your intentions, you have consider how your actions are viewed. From what I can see, and in my opinion, the perception of you is that you tend to start discussions with the aim of starting discord, and that you take the application of policy word-for-word without taking consideration of individual situations. I point to your messages to Chris and Limmiegirl, as well as your reconfirmation of Clyde as examples of the first, and the way you deal with talk pages and bugs as examples of the latter. For the first part, I think you need to weigh out priorities before approaching users and bringing matters to discussion. Is the activity of an admin/mod/patroller important to the functioning of the wiki? Certainly. Is inquiring about it and risking insulting them/other users worth it? I don't think so, unless there is some gross abuse of our policies on the matter. Are there more important things we can be worrying about, especially during this relative 'lull period'? Absolutely. A similar thing goes with the second point. Is the application of policy important? Of course it is, without application policies are pointless. Is applying a policy rigidly for the sake of applying policy worth potentially insulting users and violating the 'assume good faith' policy, probably our most important policy? Again, I don't think so. I admire your commitment to this wiki and your continuous attempts to make things better, although I do think you can be a little misguided at times. I think that if you sit back, edit, work on some projects, and maybe pop into chat a bit, you'll stand a much better chance, but I agree with J, right now isn't the time. Right now I'm sitting at a positive Neutral, but I think a bit more work is needed before my vote moves to a Yes. FollowersApocalypseLogo A Follower  Talk  05:42, March 17, 2014 (UTC)

Honestly 69, this forum is kinda what I would've suggested you do had you asked for my feedback on chat or something. So you're kinda already on a head start to what I was going to suggest you do, which is simply to look for feedback from other users when they have any for you.

Feedback and criticism is only helpful, otherwise it's simply negligible. But in order to determine whether it is or isn't criticism, you have to see what the criticism is in the first place, and so that's the only thing I'd suggest you do... and you've already done it. So just keep doing this except everywhere.

And if you want to know how to flawlessly weed out constructive criticism from destructive criticism... join the club :p --The Ever Ruler (talk) 18:58, March 19, 2014 (UTC)

Page move[]

I've moved this to a title more in line with the purpose of this forum. It's not an admin request, it's a request for "feedback".

As for my feedback, all you need is to look at the past two admin requests and honestly appraise whether you've addressed those concerns. Even if you feel some of those concerns are unmerited, don't dismiss them. It was those concerns that kept admin rights from you. Work to mitigate them. Deal with people in a more engaging manner. I've been told my whole life that "you get more flies with sugar than shit". It frequently comes up in my annual reviews. I work very hard to find ways to get my point across without being confrontational or combative. Not sure if it's working or not, but I try. Self-assessment is a hard thing for many people. Take the comments people have said about you, on your requests, on talk pages, or in chat, and assume they have a legitimate point first, and dismiss them only when you are certain they are not true or you have improved on them. Your passion and skill is never in question. It's your methods of interaction that always are. I hope this helps, and I'm sure you appreciate the bluntness, I suspect that's how you would be if the roles were reversed. The Gunny  UserGunny chevrons 18:25, March 16, 2014 (UTC)

Gunny is correct, you do need to address some of the concerns that were brought up in the previous admin requests but you are making progress. That much is certain. You are an excellent editor but you need to deal with the community with a bit more tact still. Also, at this time you no longer meet the requirements to run for admin. You have once again resigned from your patroller position. I understand you were going to go inactive but you didn't. What we need in an admin is someone who is a constant, not someone who is indecisive, do I want my patroller rights today or not? Next time you get them back, which might be awhile, don't be so quick to resign them. Keep them and just go inactive. That's what you harp on everyone else on in their requests. Practice what you preach, just don't resign your rights. You are a great editor and you have done great work here. We need you to keep doing that same work here just be more receptive of people's feedback.--Kingclyde (talk) 20:48, March 17, 2014 (UTC)
