Followers guards are security for the Followers of the Apocalypse in 2281.
Background
While the Followers of the Apocalypse are an humanitarian organization, that doesn't mean that they aren't defensiveness. Their members are aware of the fact that the wasteland is a place where sometimes one has to get shot in the head. They maintain a sizeable security force, providing well-needed defensive firepower to the group. Maintained through volunteers, the guards are equipped with powerful weapons, but lack proper armor. Regardless, they are responsible for the overall safety of the Followers' members and outposts, such as the Old Mormon Fort.
They receive room and board, and a fair pay, as part of the benefits in exchange for protecting to serve their fellow patients and doctors from common wasteland hazards. As long as anyone doesn't cause trouble with the Followers, or harms a member or anyone, visitors have nothing to fear from these guards.

Notes
At the Follower's Outpost, one of the followers guards is a ghoul, though curiously he does not have the distinct gravely voice common amongst almost all other intelligent ghouls, instead having a human-sounding voice.
