Contents

Background

Flak, born in 2227 is pretty gruff, but really tries to be polite to his customers unlike his partner Shrapnel. Once a slaver, he has renounced his old life and became an upstanding citizen of Rivet City. [1]

Daily Schedule

During opening hours Flak is at his shop in the Rivet City Market. After the Marketplace closes, he goes to The Muddy Rudder for a drink and heads of to his cabin to sleep afterward.

Interactions with the player character

Flak is the co-owner of Flak 'N Shrapnel's weapons store. He can trade with the player and has a decent supply of various weaponry and ammunition. Sometimes he may even have gotten his hands on a Fat Man.

Flak is also one of four VIP targets that Grouse of Paradise Falls wants enslaved for the quest, Strictly Business.

Notes

  • Given that Flak is confirmed to be gay[2], Flak and Shrapnel are likely not only business partners, but also lovers.
  • He is one of the targets for enslavement that Eulogy put a special bounty on. According to Paradise Falls' gatekeeper, Flak sold the slavers out to Rivet City in order to gain shelter there.
  • In order to avoid incurring the hostility of guards and citizens by enslaving Flak, it is recommended to enslave Flak while he sleeps on the Upper Deck of the ship (exactly which room he sleeps in tends to vary, though he favors his and Shrapnel's room as well as Dr. Li's room).
  • Flak and Shrapnel share their store's inventory, so buying or selling from either one of them will update both of their stocks. This means that if Flak is enslaved by the player for Paradise Falls, Flak and Shrapnel's store will still be open. They consistently have a larger amount of caps than the other shops in Rivet City, making them prime sources of cash in exchange for unneeded loot.

Bugs

  • If Flak is enslaved and the player is not successful in subsequently removing the collar to free him, this will cause Shrapnel to disappear from Rivet City. Once this has happened, he can sometimes be found anywhere between Paradise Falls and Rivet City. If you open dialogue with him, he acts as though he were still in Rivet City. Trading is still possible. Observed on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 version
  • If the player chooses to enslave Flak and then releases him from Paradise Falls, he may be found back in Rivet City doing his usual routine. The problem is he is now missing his dialogue options. When interacted with, he will just have a line stating "You saved me from those bastards. I won't forget it." This can be fixed by using the "removefromallfactions" command on Flak.
  • For long periods of time and a lot after Doctor Li moves to the Jefferson Memorial, you will find Flak trapped in Li's room behind an Average lock with Shrapnel waiting outside. He will not leave until you break in and shoot him which of course makes everyone in Rivet City start gunning for you. (Seen on Xbox 360 and PS3 versions so far)
  • When Flak is enslaved and taken to Paradise Falls it is still possible to trade with him for a limited time while he's in the adult pen meaning you can access all supplies from Rivet City in Paradise Falls.

Appearances

Flak only appears in Fallout 3.
