Skylanes 1665 Mayday is a radio station in the Commonwealth in Fallout 4. It can be picked up after extending the antennas of the Relay tower 0DB-521.

Background[]

The looped broadcast is an archived recording of a Skylanes pilot, whose plane crashes while attempting to land after having received landing clearance. The copilot alerts the aforementioned pilot to a damaged left engine, and despite their attempts to rectify the situation, the plane crashes.

Location[]

The origin of the broadcast is the aircraft at the Skylanes Flight 1665 crash site. The signal can be turned off by flipping the circuit breaker in the aircraft's storage compartment, which is located south of the stairs that lead up to the cockpit, between two rows of seats and behind an overturned pushcart.

Transcript[]

Transcript

Pilot: Skylanes one six six five, twenty miles out.
Air Traffic Controller: Roger Skylanes one six six five, traffic short final. Cleared to land on runway one eight left.
Pilot: Copy, one eight left. Coming in at four seven five knots, that's four seven...hang on control.
Co-pilot: Uh...fire in left engine. Losing power in left engine.
Pilot: Okay, let's put it out. Left engine to idle.
Co-pilot: Shit! Still losing power.
Pilot: That's it, no power in left engine. Boston Center, Skylanes one six six five declaring an emergency. Left engine failure. We're out fifteen three at this time.
Air Traffic Controller: Copy that Skylanes one six six five, request emergency landing. Clearing runway one eight left. Can you make it?
Pilot: Uh...that's a negative Boston Center, losing altitude too quickly. We will not make it to runway.
Air Traffic Controller: One six six five, say again?
Pilot: We're going down. I repeat, we are going down!

Notes[]

  • The Skylanes 1665 Mayday radio signal leading to the crash site and the Skylanes Flight 1665 final transmission found on the flight data recorder seem to contradict each other. The final transmission has a calm sounding pilot (no mention of any engine failure), who witnesses the sudden flash of the atomic bomb and then silence, implying that the aircraft crashed right afterwards. The Skylanes 1665 Mayday radio signal seems to tell a different story. The pilot has a conversation with Boston Airport, discussing the landing procedure (no mention of seeing the atomic bomb), but then one engine suddenly catches fire, leading to the subsequent crash of Skylanes 1665.
  • Suggesting there are two recordings could imply the co-pilot and pilot of Skylanes Flight 1665 were on separate channels; one being the recording software and the other being Boston Airport Control Tower.
  • There is a second hatch located behind the stairs leading up to the cockpit, it is labeled as trapdoor and interacting with it does nothing.

Behind the scenes[]

Both the pilot and the co-pilot are voiced by Jim Cummings. It is not known who voiced the air traffic controller.
