This page lists all United States Armed Forces installations.
Overview[]
The United States Armed Forces made extensive used of permanent military bases and other installations to carry out their duties, using infrastructure steadily built up over the course of centuries. Many permanent installations, like the Sierra Army Depot, dated back to the first half of the 20th century and earlier,[1] and many more were built at sites where military fortifications and camps were placed as early as the American Revolution (like Fort Strong). Bases served countless purposes, including training, storage, clandestine experimentation and top secret weapons development, and even automated defense posts. Depletion of weapon stores and manpower in the ten-year long Sino-American War led to some bases being permanently shut down and converted into automated strongpoints to protect against an expected communist invasion of the mainland.[1] They typically weren't cleaned out of usable materiel, making them a valuable source of military-grade equipment after the Great War rendered the military defunct.[Non-game 1]
Even as late as the 23rd century, many installations remained untouched, allowing sufficiently determined parties to acquire their bounty. The White Legs, for example, broke into an armory near Spanish Fork and acquired a seemingly endless supply of surplus .45 submachine guns, which became their signature weapons.[2]
However, the possible treasure is not exclusively weapons or armor: Since combat drug use was sanctioned, many bases stockpiled endorphin blockers, allowing soldiers to use drugs without fear of addiction. Such substances are virtually impossible to acquire outside of high technology places, like Vault City.[3][Non-game 2][4]
↑The Courier: "Nice guns." Joshua Graham: "In the Great Basin and Colorado Plateau, all tribes are known for a specific weapon. White Legs are known for their big submachine guns, "storm drums." They broke into an armory near Spanish Fork and have been using them for years. Of course, the Dead Horses have their wooden war clubs and even the Sorrows have their Yao Guai gauntlets. This type of .45 Automatic pistol was designed by one of my tribe almost four hundred years ago. Learning its use is a New Canaanite rite of passage." (Joshua Graham's dialogue)
↑The Chosen One: "{921}{}{What about using some kind of endorphin blocker? That would repress the chemical and psychological addition, wouldn't it?}" Myron: "{930}{myn132}{Kee-rist. That has got to be the dumbest...hmmmm...}" The Chosen One: "{931}{}{Well?}" Myron: "{940}{myn133}{Well...maybe it would work, but I'm pretty sure Jet would just chew right through that shit. Now wh-wh-why the hell are we even talking about this?! Wh-where would you get your hands on endorphine blockers anyway?}" The Chosen One: "{941}{}{You tell me, Myron. You're a bright guy.}" Myron: "{950}{myn134}{Maybe Vault City. They have a pretty good medical warehouse. A lot of old pre-holocaust bases also used to stock them to prevent combat drug addiction.}" (NhMyron.msg)
↑Fallout 2 Official Strategies & Secrets p.172: "The Sierra Army Depot The Sierra Army Depot was once a regional storage area for the military's arms and munitions. Although a significant amount of its holdings was depleted in the War, there are still gems—of prebomb hardware—to be found here. However, the base is not easy to find, and its automated defenses are still fully functional." "The Path of the Chosen One It's possible to complete the game without visiting the Sierra Army Depot. However the arms found here, including all plasma weapons, will make your future tasks that much easier. You can also build yourself a loyal and useful companion here—the Robobrain. If you learned about the location of the Sierra Army Depot from Mr. Wright in New Reno, you'll be able to accumulate an additional reward from him if you make certain that the Depot is left open and available to his men. The weapons that he can glean here will almost certainly turn the tide—in his family's favor—in the battle for control of New Reno."
↑Fallout 3 Official Game Guide Game of the Year Edition p.69: "Doctor Adrienn Adami An overworked and slightly agitate field doctor with several years of experience under her belt, Adami is busy administering Chems (usually Psycho) to wounded or mentally scarred soldiers at the U.S. Field Headquarters medical tent. Investigation into simulated Holotapes reveals discrepancies between her simulated and real-life persona, as her records implicate General Chase in a scandal of drugging soldiers with Chems researched at Chase's pharmaceutical company."
