Malden drainage is an unmarked location in the Commonwealth in 2287.

Background[]

This drainage marks the beginning of the Malden River, flowing south towards the Boston Harbor. The interior was once used by a fraternal organization to initiate their newest pledges.[1]

Roughly two centuries later, the Sutton siblings, Russell and Margaret, found a holotape in the nearby boathouse detailing the chems that the fraternity used during their initiations and decided to locate them so they could trade them for more brahmin.[2] However, they only succeeded in releasing a swarm of bloodbugs.[3]

Layout[]

This is a sewer near Malden Center and north of Taffington boathouse consisting of a drainage area with a small overlook. The western wall has a small mag-locked room with an advanced-difficulty security terminal. The north end of the drainage area has a grate-covered pipe with a few radioactive waste barrels on the other side (up to ~27 rads).

The overlook can be reached by walking along the white tubing starting from the northwest corner of the room. Entering the area reveals the corpse of Russell Sutton, a chemistry station, shelves with various chems, a trunk with leveled loot, and a fusion core in its charging station.

Notable loot[]

Notes[]

If one leaves the area by using the tcl console command, they will notice that the part of the map where the entrance is supposed to be is different from the same part that actually exists in the Commonwealth.

Appearances[]

Malden drainage appears only in Fallout 4.

Bugs[]

PCPC Xbox OneXbox One Entering Malden drainage and then exiting without opening the Advanced terminal may generate a bug that causes all guns to eventually stop doing damage. This includes NPC's guns and lasers, though it does not seem to affect melee damage. This will affect all previous saves as well, so simply deleting saves with this event is not enough to clear the bug. To fix this, delete all saves with this event, and exit from Fallout 4. If on Xbox, physically disconnect the console from AC. Wait 30 seconds, and reconnect. Boot up the console, load Fallout 4 and start from the latest save. The bug should be gone.[verified]

The residence of one Mary Sutton, this location may be cleared of hostiles and used as a settlement. There's a safe (Advanced) and steamer trunk (Novice) to unlock upstairs. Circumvent the door to the boathouse (Novice) by swimming under and up, watching for tripwires. The Bloodbugs sucking these settlers dry seem to be coming from the Malden Drainage area to the north. Clear this interior chem lab of its blood-sucking parasites before inspecting the area for Russell Sutton and a small security cell with a locked terminal (Advanced) and a trunk. There's a second trunk in the small upper laboratory area."
