If you ask me, it's one of those actors...or that horrible painter. Their type is always the cause of violence.— Julianna Riggs

Julianna Riggs is a deceased Robobrain in Vault 118 in the Fallout 4 add-on Far Harbor.

Background[]

Pre-War[]

Julianna Riggs was a wealthy heiress whose family fortune came from investments in natural resources.[1][2] She was the wife of Bert Riggs, a scientist for General Atomics International who helped lead the team which built the first Robobrain model. She was known to be harsh and critical,[3] able to quickly take charge of a situation.[4] Although this was in sharp contrast to Bert's personality, Bert always appreciated it for allowing him to focus on his research, trusting her to handle their finances.[5]

Julianna and Bert were known to be premier clients of the Cliff's Edge Hotel.[6] Sometime before 2077, they met the hotel's owner Ezra Parker and were convinced by him to invest in the construction of a Vault underneath the hotel, ostensibly simply to shelter the guests as well as other local islanders in case of nuclear annihilation, with a luxury area for the premier guests and a separate section for the others. The Riggs were not the first investors in the project, but they were the largest, holding as much of a share as all of the others combined.[2]

The luxury wing was soon finished and began to be inhabited by the premier clients. Julianna and Bert even moved most of their belongings from their mansion into a Vault room, including some cats and Bert's laboratory appliances, in anticipation of the war.[7] However, after the luxury area of the Vault was built, Ezra stopped sending money to the Vault-Tec Corporation, claiming Julianna was no longer sending the necessary funds. Quickly afterwards, construction of the lower-class wing of the Vault was halted. When questioned by the Vault 118 overseer, Julianna instead claimed that she had been paying Ezra extra for the Vault; the overseer began to suspect embezzlement.[8]

Vault 118[]

Since before the Great War, Bert began trying to convince his fellow residents to be made into Robobrains in order to wait out the war. They ultimately agreed, to the horror of the Vault's overseer.[9][10]

When the Great War occurred, Parker and his premier guests/investors managed to survive in the luxury area of the Vault in their new Robobrain forms, while the lower-class residents were locked out of the Vault and left to die.[11] The Riggs and the other investors would spend the next 200 years in the Vault in relative peace, with their needs catered to by the Vault's robotic staff (as guided by the Vault's experiment) and their fortunes embezzled away by Ezra bit by bit.

Final argument and death[]

Things changed in 2287, when Julianna found a way into the long-dead overseer's office and discovered his holotape, which led her to realize Ezra was embezzling their money. (Ezra soon found out about this and had the office locked, claiming it to be "unsafe.")[12] She tried to let Bert know about what she had discovered, but he was too focused on his research to listen.[3]

Julianna eventually confronted Ezra over his crimes, leading to a heated argument. Seeing she was on to him, Ezra decided it was too dangerous to let her live, and killed her several days after their argument by using Keith McKinney's baseball bat to smash her brain case.[13] In order to hide his crime, he swapped accessories with Julianna to steal her identity, pretending to be sick and/or malfunctioning in order to cover for any flaws in his impersonation. Bert has suspected something is up with "Julianna" since the murder, but is too afraid to consider that it may really have been her who died. With prodding, he may be able to reach the dreadful conclusion.[4]

  1. The Sole Survivor: "I think you're the real murderer."
Julianna Riggs: "I'm Julianna Riggs. Heiress to the Riggs fortune and wife of Bert Riggs. I'm not sure what else you expected, Detective."
    (Julianna Riggs' dialogue)
  2. 2.0 2.1 The Sole Survivor: "What can you tell me about your residents?"
Maxwell: "Well, Gilda Broscoe and Keith McKinney were our first investors. They are both movie stars with very storied careers. Santiago Avida is a world renowned painter, he joined us shortly after Gilda invested as he was working on a series of paintings of her at the time. Bert and Julianna Riggs are our largest investors in the hotel, holding as large a portion as the other combined. Mrs. Riggs comes from old money, lots of investments in natural resources. Mr. Riggs was a researcher for General Atomics on the Robobrain project."
    (Maxwell's dialogue)
  3. 3.0 3.1 The Sole Survivor: "I heard that Julianna and Ezra had an argument a few days before he was found dead. Tell me about that."
Bert Riggs: "Well, I was in my lab at the time so I didn't hear it, but Julianna has always been rather critical of Mr. Parker. I think she found something in the overseer's office... I wasn't listening when she told me about it. I kind of had my head in my research. I don't know really. I try to let her handle all the money stuff."
    (Bert Riggs' dialogue)
  4. 4.0 4.1 The Sole Survivor: "What do you mean, Julianna's not the same person?"
Bert Riggs: "My wife has always been a very harsh woman, Detective. I don't know who it is in our room, but that is not my wife, Detective." Was there something else, Detective?
    (Bert Riggs' dialogue)
  5. The Sole Survivor: "Have you noticed Julianna acting strange lately?"
Bert Riggs: "Oh, well I'm probably just being paranoid, but... She's been so much more pleasant lately. I mean it's been nice, but also a bit unnerving. Most people don't really understand us, but I always appreciated how she can just take charge of a situation. It's what allowed me to focus on my research. I'm worried something has happened to her. She doesn't seem like the same person. Was there something else, Detective?"
    (Bert Riggs' dialogue)
  6. The Sole Survivor: "Tell me about the victim."
Maxwell: "Mr. Ezra Parker was the primary owner and financier for the hotel. He had vast experience managing venture projects around the world. It was his idea to have our premier clients become investors in the vault section of the hotel. He worked with Vault-Tec to have this built to their every specification. Was there anything else?"
    (Maxwell's dialogue)
  7. The Sole Survivor: "I heard you had a big fight with Ezra a few days ago. Care to explain?"
Julianna Riggs: "These are our things. We're just waiting till the war blows over so we can bring them back to the mansion."
    (Julianna Riggs' dialogue)

  9. Vault 118 terminal entries; overseer's terminal, Change of testing parameters
  10. The Sole Survivor: "Your residents are robots?"
Maxwell: "Not robots, Detective. Well not exactly anyway. I believe the term they use is Robobrain. Back before the war, the residents decided the best way to wait it out was to put their brains inside robotic chassis."
    (Maxwell's dialogue)
  11. Vault 118 terminal entries; overseer's terminal, The door wouldn't open
  12. The Sole Survivor: "The door to the overseer's office is locked."
Maxwell: "Oh yes, Mr. Parker locked it a while back after finding out that one of the other residents had been inside. Said it wasn't safe. If the key isn't on him, it's probably in Mr. Parker's room. Was there anything else?"
    (Maxwell's dialogue)
  13. The Sole Survivor: "Ezra? You're alive?"
Ezra Parker: "I hadn't planned on it, but Julianna figured out what I was doing and had to be dealt with swiftly. I thought I could get a bit more money out of this place before making my escape. What's it going to be, Detective. Join me in getting rich or die defending some outdated ideals?"
    (Ezra Parker's dialogue)
