Behind the scenes[]

  • The signatures on the ball appear to be from various people who are not related to baseball: Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the first president of Turkey; Catherine Fife, a Canadian politician; Dale Jarret, a former American race car driver; Gwen Ashley Walters, a chef; Robert C. Apgar, an American lawyer; Arhul Hextrophon, a character in the Star Wars series; Leslie Satcher, a music artist; G Billy, a character in the online game Club Penguin; and Tami Simon, the founder of a publishing company.[1] Two other signatures on the baseball come from unknown sources.
  • Many of the signatures are among the first results on Google Images when searching for a name followed by "signature." For example, searching "James signature" produces one of the signatures on the ball. This same signature has been used on many websites by similarly-named people across the Internet; an example of this is shown in the Gallery image below. This explanation for the obscure references on the ball is also true for "Gwen signature," which produces Gwen Ashley Walters' signature, and "Billy signature," which produces G Billy's signature. Tami Simon's signature was featured in a Huffington Post article about signatures.
