A manually placed explosive created by converting a mini nuke into an improvised hand-held explosive. Like other mines, it cannot be used in V.A.T.S. It is considered an improved holdout weapon.
Crafting[]
The weapon cannot be found in the game, instead it must be crafted which requires taking the Mad Bomber perk.
¹ Craftable without a workbench via a dialogue option with Veronica, or with ED-E once the add-on Lonesome Road is installed.
Notes[]
In terms of damage, it is the most powerful holdout weapon in the game.
The crafting recipe only accepts standard mini nukes and will not accept any of the variations from Gun Runners' Arsenal.
It is the second heaviest placed explosive in the game, behind the gas bomb from Dead Money.
Taking the Certified Tech perk will significantly assist in mass crafting as it provides a somewhat reliable source of sensor modules where one can find robots that respawn.
Like many other homemade weapons, the fat mine's weight is not accurate when compared to the ingredients necessary to make it.
It inflicts substantially less damage than a normal mini nuke fired from a Fat Man.
The fat mine has a very significant area of effect, much larger than any other placed weapon.
Like the gas bomb, the fat mine does not stay in place as with other mines. Due to its cylindrical shape, it may roll if placed on uneven ground.
