Watch your back around here. Nobody got to Uptown by playing nice.

Duke is a Pitt raider who resides in the Pitt Uptown in the year 2277.

Background[]

Duke is vying for Krenshaw's position as Ashur's second-in-command, and has the rifle prowess to back up some of his plans to gain additional power within the faction.[Non-game 1] He is very knowledgeable of the history of The Pitt and some of its inhabitants, and will share some of these details with the Lone Wanderer upon their ascent from the fighting pit.[1][2]

Duke is also known to compete with O-Dog for Vikia's attention.[Non-game 2]

Daily schedule[]

He can be seen either warming his hands at the fire next to where Phantom, Mona, or Squill are practicing their melee strikes, or shooting at the beer bottles at the same place where O-Dog and Vikia practice.

Effects of player's actions[]

He will congratulate the Lone Wanderer for fighting their way out of the Hole, and he will tell them that many of the Pitt raiders were once slaves who also fought their way out of the Hole, although the only confirmed members of this category are Gruber, Reddup, and Squill.

Notes[]

  • Duke informs the player character that many of the Pitt raiders are actually former slaves who earned their freedom by fighting in the Arena, although most do not like to admit to this fact. The rest are regular raiders from the Capital Wasteland who came to the Pitt in order to join "the biggest gang around."[1]
  • Duke refers to the raiders in the Capital Wasteland as "drugged up idiot raiders out in the wild," mentioning how they are an embarrassment and bring shame to the profession.[2]

Appearances[]

Duke appears only in the Fallout 3 add-on The Pitt.

Behind the scenes[]

Duke's name is derived from Duquesne University located in the Oakland district of Pittsburgh, the Pitt Uptown equivalent. The football team and mascot are also called the Dukes and the Duke, respectively.

  1. 1.0 1.1 The Lone Wanderer: "How many other soldiers came from the Hole?"
Duke: "You'd be surprised how many of us worked our way up - even if we don't like to admit it. The rest are just toughs from the Wasteland who decided to join the biggest gang around. Either way, watch your back around here. Nobody got to Uptown by playing nice."
    (Duke's dialogue)
  2. 2.0 2.1 The Lone Wanderer: "I bet none of you have seen the things I've seen."
Duke: "That's a pissing match you don't want to start around here. We've got people from every blasted-out crater on this coast. Don't mistake us for those drugged-up idiot Raiders out in the wild. They're an embarrassment to the profession. You just go out there and prove yourself to Ashur. We'll all be watching."

  1. Fallout 3 Official Game Guide Game of the Year Edition p.70: "Duke:
A stuck-up Raider with delusions of grandeur, he's vying for Krenshaw's position and has the rifle prowess to back up some of his plans. He knows the history of the place and of Ashur, and he doesn't mind sharing it with you, telling you all about this motley crew."
  2. Fallout 3 Official Game Guide Game of the Year Edition p.87: "O-Dog:
Infatuated with Vikia the sniper, O-Dog is more than competent with precision-rifle weaponry. He competes with Duke to get Vikia's attention, almost always unsuccessfully. He deems newcomers not as meat but simply as a 'higher grade of sausage.'"
