Well, there's Dinky, the town mascot. He's a sight. You probably already saw him when you came in, but you can go up inside, too.Jeannie May Crawford

Dinky the T-Rex is an unmarked location within Novac in the Mojave Wasteland in Fallout: New Vegas.

Background[]

Dinky has served as a roadside attraction in the area around Novac since before the Great War, additionally serving as a revenue source with the Dino Bite gift shop situated inside of it.

By 2281, the tourist attraction now doubly serves as a sniper's nest, specifically the balcony housed in its jaws, utilized by Novac's resident pair of retired First Recon sharpshooters, Manny Vargas and Craig Boone; both take shifts defending the town during the day and night, respectively.[1][2][3]

Layout[]

Situated within the Dino Dee-lite Motel complex,[4] Dinky is situated along Highway 95, visible from a distance due to its height.[5][6] The dinosaur holds a thermometer, having taken a bite out of the top, that advertises the motel and amenities such as color television.[7]

The structure can be accessed from the left or right of the Novac fence. A door and set of stairs on the side of the dinosaur is the entrance to Dino Bite gift shop. Another interior set of stairs provides access to the mouth. There is a room behind the counter containing rocket souvenirs.[8] The motel itself is located behind Dinky, across the courtyard.

Notable loot[]

Notes[]

  • If brought to the town, Cass states that when she first saw Novac, she thought the Dinky the T-Rex statue actually depicted a giant gecko.[9]
  • Honest Hearts One of Follows-Chalk's idle comments references Dinky, as he questions the Courier if there "really [is] a giant thunder-lizard people live inside."

Appearances[]

Dinky the T-Rex appears in Fallout: New Vegas and is mentioned in its add-on Honest Hearts.

Behind the scenes[]

  • The in-game Dinky the T-Rex closely resembles the real-world Tex the T-Rex, located at the Shan-Gri-La Prehistoric Park and Museum in Henderson, Nevada.[10]
    • The landmark also resembles Mr. Rex, one of two large biomorphic buildings designed and constructed by sculptor Claude K. Bell in Cabazon, California. The name Dinky refers to Mr. Rex's counterpart Dinny, although the real world Dinny (pronounced Diney) is a Brontosaurus as opposed to a Tyrannosaurus rex.
