The fertilizer shovel is a unique shovel which is added to Fallout 3 with the Point Lookout add-on.

A plain-looking, long-handled shovel with a worn blade caked in "dirt," the fertilizer shovel has one of the longest reaches of any melee weapon in the game, making it effective for fending off large groups of enemies. In addition, each hit inflicts 4 poison damage for 10 seconds, that stacks with each hit (due to the fertilizer smeared on the blade), so large amounts of damage can be applied quickly.

It can be repaired with other shovels.

The fertilizer shovel can successfully strike about 533 times from full condition before breaking.

The fertilizer shovel can be obtained from the tribal, Croatoa (keeper of the punga fruits at Ark & Dove cathedral), with the Child at Heart perk, or by passing a speech check after asking about his 'secrets.' One may also kill him and retrieve it from his body, but this method is not recommended, unless both the quests, Walking with Spirits and Hearing Voices have already been completed.

When giving the Lone Wanderer the shovel, Croatoa will warn them not to cut themselves on it as "it will make you sick."
