From The Vault
The Feral Ghoul Reaver is a type of feral ghoul which appears in the Fallout 3 add-ons Broken Steel and Point Lookout.
The Reaver wears what appears to be the remains of Metal Armor and has significantly more HP than any other form of feral ghoul. It is also set apart from other feral ghouls by its unique ability to throw a grenade-like explosive called "Radioactive Gore", improved speed, and a special effect that emits from its body similar to the Glowing One's radiation pulse.

Feral Ghoul Reavers are extremely tough enemies, more than twice as durable as Sentry Bots or Deathclaws. The Reavers are extremely quick, and their lunge attack can send the player sliding back some distance with every strike. Their blows, like a Deathclaw's, tend to pack quite a punch, and even high level players are prone to being easily crippled/quickly killed in short order if not careful. Their radioactive gore easily cripples limbs and is thrown almost always with deadly accuracy. Reavers seem to be highly perceptive as they (unlike Deathclaws) can even detect High Level players in Sneak Mode wearing the Chinese Stealth Armor. The Ghoul Mask is very helpful as they will not attack you if you are wearing it. Similar to Glowing Ones, they emit radiation in large quantities.
[edit] Locations
Multiple Reavers can be found during "Who Dares Wins" in the Presidential Metro and in various places, like the American Museum of History, around the Capital Wasteland if the player character is of high enough level.
They can also be found in Point Lookout, most prominently at Turtledove Detention Camp, Jet Crash Site and Ark & Dove Resting Grounds.
Feral Ghoul Reavers can appear in Fallout 3 prior to the main quest being completed if the Broken Steel add-on is loaded; the same can be said for Super Mutant Overlords and Albino Radscorpions. Franklin Metro Utility, in particular, will be filled with them at high levels.
- Upon close inspection, Reavers' skin appears to "bubble" and other times, "burn", emitting slight radiation and letting dark green 'smoke' billow out from the scars on their bodies. If such a Reaver is killed by a critical hit from an energy weapon, the 'smoke' will even persist on the Green Goo/ashes.
- Shooting a Reaver's leg makes the battle much easier; the radioactive gore is hardly a threat. You may want to pack a Dart Gun or, if that isn't available, the Railway Rifle (which should cripple them in 2-3 shots).
- The radioactive gore can be shot like a grenade. However, it's more difficult to shoot, because the hit percentage in the ghoul's hand usually stays below 10%, and it flies at you so fast that it's difficult to hit before it reaches you when its thrown. This can be done both in and outside of V.A.T.S.
- Feral Ghoul Reavers may 'have a fit', making them invincible for a short period of time. If this happens, shoot for the legs. Grenades are also effective. Fortunately, this bug seems to be limited to the Reavers in the Presidential Metro battle. You can also successfully target them in V.A.T.S. but all shots fired will miss. (confirmed PC and 360)
- It is possible to get split-second appearing message that tells you that Radioactive Gore can be picked up, the message is the same one as for objects shot out of the Rock-It Launcher. (confirmed on 360 and PS3)
- If a Feral Ghoul Reaver is killed while "having a fit," their limbs may be stuck in mid-air. Such as when a body clips with a wall, but instead there is nothing there. (confirmed)
