Location

In order to acquire the super sledge, speak to Fawkes when he is taking one to the G.E.C.K. and ask him to trade. It will usually be in his inventory as an equipped item unless he has grabbed a better weapon on the way or was relieved of it by enemy attacks. He may occasionally have more than one. If taken from him, he will equip a sledgehammer which cannot be traded.

If this opportunity is missed, Fawkes may still have the weapon when he is seen outside Raven Rock, and it can be acquired through the same means. If not, one can go back to Vault 87 when with Fawkes as a follower and he will equip the weapon. The player character must be in the experimental section of Vault 87 where Fawkes was originally found for him to equip it. If the player character has low Karma, he will not be available as a follower, so one will either have to kill him, pickpocket the weapon or shoot it out of his hands to take it.

It is possible to acquire his super sledge if he has returned to the Museum of History. With a high Sneak skill, one can pickpocket it off him. With Broken Steel installed, Fawkes may have the super sledge following the events of Take it Back!, if he is not one's follower at the time.

Notes

  • When Fawkes goes to get the G.E.C.K., he may drop his super sledge and pick up a sledgehammer or a super sledge, still allowing one to pick up his super sledge.
  • The weapon can also end up on the body of a super mutant on the way to the G.E.C.K.
  • If one leaves Vault 87 and destroys Raven Rock, then acquires Fawkes as a follower, he may not have the super sledge in his inventory.
  • The super sledge only spawns in Fawkes' inventory when one follows his directions, using the master terminal to access his door. If one uses the terminal to press the release option several times, then several super sledges will be in his inventory. Everything in Fawkes' inventory will despawn after the Lone Wanderer is kidnapped by the Enclave. Items may be stored near the cell where they will be safe until one returns to collect.
