The Republic of Dave is a fortified homestead/ranch run by a man called Dave, along with his two wives. The "country" is located in the northeast part of the Capital Wasteland, nearly in the top corner of the map. The Republic's economy seems to prosper despite its exceptionally small size, with trading happening, however rarely, with the trade caravans nearby. The Republic also has its own agricultural sector to the left of the entrance.

Jesse Heinig worked as a programmer and designer on the original Fallout. Among other things, he was responsible for scripting and designing the companions, including Ian and Tycho (originally, the engine didn't really have support for party members and they weren't in the original design), as well as ZAX. He was also one of the people responsible for creating the SPECIAL character system.

Sneak is a Fallout, Fallout 2, Fallout Tactics, Van Buren, J.E. Sawyer's Fallout Role-Playing Game, Lionheart, Fallout 3, and Fallout: New Vegas skill. Quiet movement, and the ability to remain unnoticed. If successful, you will be much harder to locate. You cannot run and sneak at the same time unless you have the Silent Running perk. Sneaking is one of the most important skills. The closer you can get to a foe without being seen, the higher your odds of hitting him, so this helps with every type of weapon; otherwise, you have to split points between different types of weapons or increase skill for one type at the expense of another.

General John Maxson is the grandson of Roger Maxson, the founder of the Brotherhood of Steel, and the High Elder of the Brotherhood at Lost Hills around 2161. He was born in 2097, twenty years after the Great War in the Lost Hills bunker in the still young wasteland of south California. In 2135, at the age of 38, he became a paladin, showing tremendous promise as a soldier, and some time after that he became the Head Paladin. In 2155, after his father was killed by the Vipers, he became the high elder of the Brotherhood. When he met the Vault Dweller in 2162, he was 65.

Tenpenny Tower is a place in Fallout 3, located southwest from Megaton. The old luxury hotel is now the refuge of Allistair Tenpenny who allows people in for the right price - Ghouls need not apply. A suite becomes available to the Lone Wanderer if he/she assists Mister Burke in detonating the atomic bomb at the center of Megaton.

The Underworld is an area where the ostracized sapient ghouls (as opposed to their feral brethren) of Washington, D.C. live. It exists as a small city, complete with a bar, inn, clinic, and "stylist." Most humans are tolerated, as long as they do not cause trouble. The Brotherhood of Steel are not welcome, however, as they tend to shoot ghouls on sight.

The Hubologists are a sub-culture of the Fallout 2 world, headquartered in the former city of San Francisco. They are a religious cult founded before the Great War by a man known as Dick Hubbell (or "The Hub" by Hubologists). Hubology, as a religion, promotes the idea that humans are plagued by the spirits, or neurodynes, of the dead. Through a cleansing process offered at Hubology centers called alignment, members can remove these negative influences and gain greater powers. The degree to which a member has devoted his or her time and efforts to Hubology accords him or her a numerical rank; the Hubologist leader, AHS-9, holds the highest rank of any living Hubologist.

The Brotherhood Outcasts are a group of former members of the Brotherhood of Steel led by Protector Henry Casdin that believe that by abandoning the Brotherhood of Steel’s primary mission of acquiring new technologies, Elder Owyn Lyons has abandoned the very values that defined the order itself. They left the Citadel, and have re-dedicated their lives to what they consider the Brotherhood of Steel’s only mission – the acquisition of new technologies. Brotherhood Outcasts wear power armor that has been repainted black and blood red in color. To compensate for their reduced numbers, the Outcasts have supplemented their forces with a number of reprogrammed robobrains, sentry bots and protectrons that have also been repainted black and blood red.

The Hei Gui stealth suit was an armor worn by elite Chinese counterinsurgency/terror units before and during the Great War. In Chinese, Hei Gui (黑鬼) means "Black Ghost." The armor has active camouflage systems that, when activated, generate a modulating field that transmits the reflected light from one side of an object to the other, making a person much harder to notice (but not completely invisible). Hei Gui technology was the basis for the unstable "Stealth Boy" wrist units developed in the U.S.

Obsidian Entertainment, founded in 2003 after the disestablishment of Interplay Entertainment's Black Isle Studios, is a video game developer for PC and console systems. Obsidian continues to operate under management by its founding officers: Feargus Urquhart, Chris Parker, Darren Monahan, Chris Avellone and Chris Jones. In July 2005 they hired Joshua Sawyer of Icewind Dale fame. Several of the developers at Obsidian worked on Fallout, Fallout 2 and Van Buren (the canceled Fallout 3 project). Obsidian is currently developing Fallout: New Vegas.

The mini nuke is a tactical nuclear warhead designed for use in a shoulder-launched missile weapon. It is used as ammunition for the Fat Man and its unique variants. Mini nukes are the single most expensive piece of ammunition, ranging from 250 to 400 caps a piece to buy, depending on your Barter level. They are also the single most powerful weapon in the game, doing many times more damage than any other weapon even at low Big Guns levels.

The Midwestern Brotherhood of Steel is a splinter faction of the original Brotherhood of Steel.

After the defeat of the Master, the original Brotherhood found themselves at odds with their need for new blood versus their code of technological secrecy. Finally, the elders ruled against sharing the technology with outsiders, convinced that they would endure what they had before and the elders ordered the minority on a mission across the wastes.

The Brotherhood constructed airships and dispatched the minority eastwards to track down the remaining super mutant threat. However, a great storm broke and the mighty main airship was badly damaged. The fraction of the crew that survived, struggled to keep their ship aloft before finally crashing on the outskirts of the ruins of Chicago. The survivors eventually formed a new organization, which diverged greatly from the ideals of the old Brotherhood.

Recon armor is a specialized suit issued to Initiates of the Brotherhood of Steel, and is basically the underarmor of T-45d power armor. It is a padded jumpsuit covering the entire body, integrated with the interface for the power armor. Unlike the underarmor for the T-51b models, this one is designed to offer limited protection.

Brian Menze is an artist who worked at Black Isle Studios, including on Fallout 2. Among other things, he drew all of the new Vault Boy pictures in Fallout 2. He is currently working on Fallout: New Vegas at Obsidian Entertainment and will likely draw Vault Boy art for this game as well.

The Wattz 2000 laser rifle uses microfusion cells for lasers more powerful than in the case of the Wattz 1000 laser pistol, and an extended barrel for additional range. Having a very long range and acute accuracy, the laser rifle can be effectively used in long distance combat. However, many enemies have good resistance to laser weapons, and as such the laser weapons are rendered much weaker against more formidable adversaries such as Enclave troops. It can be used to deliver accurate critical hits from long distances however.

Argyle was the "stalwart Ghoul manservant" of adventurer Herbert Dashwood. He was stated to be a spry, gifted fighter, a stout adventurer, and a trustworthy chum. He was born before the Great War and first met Dashwood in 2241, when the adventurer stole his girlfriend. However, despite the misunderstanding, they became good friends. If radio dramas inspired by their adventures hosted by Galaxy News Radio are to be believed, Argyle was a very frank, untrusting individual constantly exasperated by his master's recklessness and how easily he fell for women. Nevertheless, he was very loyal, refusing to abandon him and always saving him from any dire situations, no matter how much force was required.

Doctor Madison Li is a scientist working on food conditioning experiments in Rivet City, together with Janice Kaplinski and Anna Holt. She used to be part of the group of scientists that worked with James on Project Purity before the birth of the Lone Wanderer. Despite James' renewed efforts she remains skeptical of the project. Dr. Li is the first distinct face is seen during the player character's birth scene. The player is sent to Dr. Li by Three Dog after completing Galaxy News Radio (or talking his way out of it), beginning Scientific Pursuits. Dr. Li will ask the player not to follow James to the old lab (Jefferson Memorial). Going to the Jefferson Memorial will continue the main quest and story line.

The alien blaster is a small energy weapon of extra-terrestial origin which appears in Fallout, Fallout 2, Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas.

In Fallout, the alien blaster can be found only in the "Alien Ship" special encounter. In Fallout 2, the alien blaster can only be bought from a merchant that you can meet during a random encounter north of Modoc. In Fallout 3,

the alien blaster can be obtained from the body of a dead alien lying a few feet away from his crashed spaceship. The alien crash site is found due north of MDPL-13 Power Station and northwest of the Greener Pastures Disposal Site. There are 120 alien power cells found at the crash site.

Nukalurks are a rare species of Mirelurk with glowing blue features. It is assumed that this coloration is due to the isotope used to color Nuka-Cola Quantum. This seems to be proven by the effects of their delicious Nukalurk meat which boosts health as well as Action Points! Found in large numbers only in the Nuka-Cola plant, this ancient pre-War bottling factory may serve as both their home, and the birthplace of their species. The majority of these creatures dwell in the lower production level of the factory, which has been flooded with spilled Nuka-Cola Quantum.

Morpheus is the leader of the Children of the Cathedral, a cult worshipping the Master, in 2161. He used to be a member of the Rippers, a familiar gang of inbreds, but he eventually left the gang and became a leader of a doomsday cult. In 2151, he was found by the Master's spies, and pledged his followers to him, forming the future core of the Children.

Schematics and the use of a Workbench allow one to assemble makeshift weapons and powerful improvised explosive devices out of wasteland junk and pre-War relics. Additional schematics improve your understanding of the production design by filling in knowledge gaps, caused over the years by stains, creases and smudged sections. Every one you find past the first allows you to make a better version. Additional schematics do not increase damage, but they do bring a durability bonus to weapons, and allow for more efficient production of homemade explosives. With Schematic V3.0 of the Nuka-grenade, or bottlecap mine a maximum of three explosives can be produced from a single set of components.

The Winchester Model P94 plasma rifle is an industrial-grade energy weapon, firing superheated bolts of plasma down a superconducting barrel ending in electromagnetic claws helping to form the plasma bolt. Powered by microfusion cells. This rifle appears in Fallout, Fallout 2, Fallout 3, Fallout: New Vegas and Fallout Tactics.

Sierra Petrovita is a Nuka-Cola addict living in Girdershade. She is obsessed with everything related to the soda and even has her own Nuka-Cola "museum" (really just a display of her collection within her shack) which she gives tours in. She is blissfully and innocently unaware of her neighbor Ronald Laren's obsession with her or his unsavory intentions.

The Tesla power armor, often called simply Tesla armor by Enclave troops, is a type of power armor. Unlike the pre-War Tesla armor, constructed from plans left by Nikola Tesla, it is a variant of the Advanced power armor Mk II with a Tesla device that disperses a large percentage of directed energy attacks. Additionally, the armor makes operation of energy weapons easier, boosting the Energy Weapons skill of the operator. Although this is powerful armor and a great addition to your wardrobe, the only place to get it (and spare suits for repairs) is by fighting Enclave soldiers. Their armor is usually acquired in rather poor condition, with several new holes in it. Despite this drawback, the armor is still one of the best you can find by the end of the game, bested only by the T-51b power armor.

Galaxy News Radio (GNR) is what remains of the big pre-War company Galaxy News Network. Run by DJ Three Dog, GNR splits its time between Wasteland News, Survival Advice, and big band music. Three Dog operates the station as part of the "Good Fight," which he explains later is his attempt to tell inhabitants of the Capital Wasteland how "things really are" and the Enclave's true motives for the future. He also states that the only reason he plays the same few older songs over and over is because these are all the records he's been able to locate in playable condition.

The Reservation was a location in Van Buren, the canceled Fallout 3 by Black Isle Studios. It is a ghoul town in New Mexico, built around an old scientific research station, the Los Alamos Nuclear Testing Facility. It is naturally highly radioactive. The ghouls are sick of being the underdogs of the wasteland, and they have a new leader who's going to stick it to the humans good, Firing radioactive artillery shells via Nuclear Nellie into human occupied towns. Of course, Nellie isn't quite working right and the ghouls haven't figured out a way to move Nellie around easily....

The Vipers are one of the three groups of raiders that originated from Vault 15, other being the Khans and the Jackals. The Vipers are mysterious followers of an ancient religion (or so they claim). They usually only come out at night to hunt for food or to conduct raids. They are very ruthless when it comes to combat. They prefer stealth to strength. They usually carry bone knives dipped in Pit Viper venom. This poison, when in the blood stream, paralyzes the victim. Most victims captured in this way are taken back to their hideout.

Operation: Anchorage is the first add-on for Fallout 3, and was released on January 27, 2009 for Xbox Live and Games for Windows Live. In this add-on, the Brotherhood of Steel Outcasts are trying to acquire advanced military tools, and the only way to enter the vault containing these relics is by completing a military simulation only the player can enter. In the simulation the player fights in one of the greatest battles of the Fallout universe: the liberation of Anchorage, Alaska from invading Red Chinese troops. The simulation is set between June 2076, when the T-51b power armor was first introduced, and January 2077, when Chinese forces were completely driven out of Alaska.

L.O.B. Enterprises was an American pre-war company based in the Washington, DC area.

It was involved with China before the war, developing a new incendiary sidearm for them known as Project Zhu-Rong. Rumors arose and subsequently spread of their activities, as one would expect, and L.O.B. Enterprises soon came under federal scrutiny as political tensions rose between the United States and China before the bombs fell. As a result of this, its employees were required to carry low-grade military weapons at all times and received training in the event of a federal invasion or nuclear exchange.

In 2077, shortly after Project Zhu-Rong's completion, the building was invaded by U.S. military security forces, comprised mostly of robots.

The Crimson Dragoons were China's pre-War elite troops equipped with Chinese stealth armor, swords, and sniper rifles. Rumored to begin military training from birth, they are considered the very best the Chinese Army has to offer. They are encountered in Fallout 3's add-on Operation: Anchorage frequently ambushing the player.

The Chimera is an advanced Chinese tank with an energy cannon, used during the Anchorage Reclamation in Alaska. It appears to use Archimedes screws as a propulsion method. According to Lieutenant Morgan in Fallout 3's add-on Operation: Anchorage, Chimera tanks are actually converted Alaskan mining rigs, reinforced by the Chinese with armor and weapons.
