1 August

Benny All Roads
Benny is the head of the Chairmen of New Vegas in 2281. The brains behind a complex scheme to usurp control of New Vegas from Mr. House, he serves as the secondary antagonist of Fallout: New Vegas. Benny was a member of a nomadic tribe called the Mojave Boot-Riders before Mr. House took over Vegas. As one of the three tribes who agreed to House's new rule, the Boot-Riders were assigned to renovate the Tops casino. They were given suits and ties and renamed "The Chairmen." Benny's long-term goal is simple: to control New Vegas. He learned Mr. House had something buried underneath the Fort and of the platinum chip - the key to all of House's plans. Using Yes Man, Benny was able to discover the route the Courier would take, and hired Jessup, McMurphy and Chance to help him finish the job. The Courier was bound and shot in the head, buried in an unmarked grave at Goodsprings Cemetery, and left for dead, but survived.

2 August

Megaton inside
Megaton is a town in the vicinity of Washington, D.C. built around the crater of a crashed plane which still contains an undetonated nuclear bomb. The town is one of the larger settlements in the Capital Wasteland and was constructed out of parts of the crashed plane as well as others found at a nearby airfield. While most inhabitants would like to be rid of the nuclear danger in their midst, a part of the populace worships it as a holy device sent by their god, Atom. It is a central location in Fallout 3.

3 August

Mothership Zeta
Mothership Zeta is the fifth and final add-on for Fallout 3, developed and published by Bethesda Softworks. It was first released on August 3, 2009. In this add-on, the Lone Wanderer is beamed aboard an alien mothership orbiting Earth miles above the Capital Wasteland, left with only one alternative – to find a way to the bridge of the ship, join with other abducted earthlings, secure escape and find out more about the alien threat to humanity. The add-on culminates in a massive spaceship battle against another Zetan ship and the alien captain.

4 August

FO76 Responders logo
The Responders are a volunteer disaster relief organization operating in Appalachia. Formed shortly after the Great War by local first responder units, they were dedicated to helping local communities survive. To this end, they instituted a variety of programs that ranged from basic outdoor survival training to a specialized combat division called the Fire Breathers. Like the other regional factions, the original Responders were wiped out by the Scorched Plague. Several years later, those who reclaimed Appalachia began to reform the Responders. A desire to revive the group began with Heather Ellis in Flatwoods. Later, in 2104, the Responders group re-established itself in the Whitespring Resort, led by Rucker.

5 August

Art deco sculptures are a common aesthetic sight in the Fallout series, appearing in some form in every game dating back to the first Fallout. They are stylized building decorations, often depicting helmeted angels and ominous visages. Several distinctive faces can be found on municipal buildings, as well as corporate, military, or upper-class architecture. These pre-War statues were still being erected at the time of the Great War. Several art deco face sculptures have been discovered many stories beneath the earth's surface in mysteriously unexplained or occult-connected settings.

6 August

DERVISH Hidden valley
Hidden Valley is a location in the Mojave Wasteland in Fallout: New Vegas. It is a military installation nestled between hills and rocks roughly northeast of the New California Republic Correctional Facility (NCRCF) and southeast of Sloan. The surface of the valley is home to numerous bark scorpions; located underground are the remnants of the Mojave chapter of the Brotherhood of Steel that once occupied HELIOS One before being defeated by the NCR during Operation: Sunburst. Formerly a testing range for the United States Air Force, it is blanketed in a cloaking haze known as the DERVISH camouflage system at night.

7 August

Synth is a common term used to refer to the robotic and biomechanical beings manufactured within the Institute's laboratories. While Generation 1 and 2 synths are entirely mechanical designs utilizing simplistic AIs, Generation 3 synths produced from the late 2220's onward are biological constructs near-indistinguishable from humans, and are frequently sent to abduct and replace residents of the Commonwealth for espionage purposes. While viewed with suspicion and paranoia by most wastelanders (particularly the Brotherhood of Steel, who consider them an existential threat to humanity), some view them with sympathy, such as the Railroad, who compare their treatment at the hands of the Institute to slavery. Many synths are unaware that they are synths, having pre-programmed selected memories. First appearing in Fallout 3, synths are central to the plot of Fallout 4.

8 August

Fo4 Atomic Atlas
Power armor is a personal infantry combat technology developed before the Great War by United States defense contractors. It represents the pinnacle of personal defensive technology, combining excellent protection from small and large arms with the ability to carry heavy weapons into combat with ease. In the games, power armor is a precious, treasured item, with only a limited number of factions capable of maintaining or fielding them in substantial numbers, much less manufacturing them. Some of the most prominent factions that use power armor are the technologically advanced Brotherhood of Steel and the Enclave. It has appeared in every Fallout game to date.

9 August

The Great Khans are a raider tribe in the Mojave Wasteland in 2281. Led by Papa Khan, they are the third incarnation of the Khans. The Great Khans are the only truly organized band of raiders in the Mojave and, as befits their warrior culture, men and women both can hold their own in a fight, whether in a brawl or a shootout. As a tribe however, the Great Khans are but a shadow of their former selves. Both their numbers and morale have been ravaged by a series of massacres and displacements. From their rocky stronghold at Red Rock Canyon, they make a living by drug-trafficking and the occasional raid or salvage find. They are one of many factions in Fallout: New Vegas's reputation system.

10 August

Fo4 Companion MacCready
Robert MacCready is a mercenary and possible companion in Fallout 4. He previously appeared as the mayor of Little Lamplight in 2277 in Fallout 3. In his adulthood, he became a gun-for-hire, and by 2287, he operates out of Goodneighbor in the Commonwealth. Out of work due to the Gunners scaring off clients, he offers the Sole Survivor his services as a companion for a price. He was born in the Capital Wasteland, where he was, for a time, the foul-mouthed child in charge of the settlement of Little Lamplight. After departing, he entered the field of mercenary work, eventually heading up to the Boston area, where he fell in with the Gunners. He is also searching for a cure for an illness for his son Duncan.

11 August

Anti-materiel rifle
The anti-materiel rifle is a weapon in Fallout: New Vegas. One of the most powerful and iconic Guns skill weapons, the anti-materiel rifle utilizes an ergonomic, metallic skeleton design with a free-floating barrel. Designated on the side as the .50 Hécate II, it is a bolt-action, high caliber precision weapon intended for use against hard targets. For balance, the rifle includes a tapered barrel and a large muzzle brake to reduce recoil to manageable levels. Unlike most rifles, the AMR was designed from the ground up to be used at long and extreme ranges: It lacks any kind of sights, featuring instead a mounting rail for high powered scopes and a forward bipod mount.

12 August

Presidential seal
The last President of the United States is an unseen, mentioned-only character who was nonetheless important to the pre-War world of the Fallout series. At some point before the bombs dropped, the president was organizing a summit involving political and industrial leaders from the Territory of Appalachia. The aim of the summit was to discuss their success in automating local industry and businesses, focusing on how these efforts could be replicated across the nation. In early 2077, he disbanded his administration's press corps and abandoned the White House, relocating to Control Station ENCLAVE. On the day of the Great War, at 9:26 in the morning, his executive code was authenticated and used in response to detected Chinese ICBMs. His eventual fate on the oil rig is unknown. The president is mentioned in Fallout 2, Fallout 3, Fallout 4, Fallout 76, and in the Fallout Bible.

13 August

Pylon V-13
Pylon V-13 is a location in the Cranberry Bog region of Appalachia in Fallout 76. This structure is built on one of the Appalachian monorail pylons, the 13th from RobCo Research Center. This section was going to be used by Professor Greebly as part of an experiment attempting to conduct time travel by moving through dimensions at a high speed. There are two skeletons dressed as scientists in the rear car. Another lies on the ground by the rear pylon near the treasure mound for Cranberry Bog treasure map #4, and a fourth in the front car by the generator. Standing in the modified pylon once caused the player to take acute radiation damage. As of the first content update, Wild Appalachia, the radiation was no longer present.

14 August

Doctor Henry
Doctor Henry is a physician and former Enclave scientist who appears in both Fallout 2 and Fallout: New Vegas. Described as difficult to figure out but passionate about his research, Dr. Henry previously worked with the Enclave on canine cyber-genetics. After leaving the Enclave, Dr. Henry integrated into the New California Republic, setting up a clinic in NCR town. Dr. Henry then spent time traveling with caravans, where he met with Old Lady Gibson. He subsequently relocated to the Mojave Wasteland, joining other Enclave remnants fleeing death at the hands of the NCR and Brotherhood of Steel. As of 2281, he is a rare human resident of Jacobstown, where he continues his research, now attempting to find a cure for the Nightkins' schizophrenia.

15 August

Fo3MZ Elliot Tercorien
Private Elliott Tercorien is a pre-War U.S. Army soldier found abducted and held in a stasis chamber in Mothership Zeta's engineering core. He is a major character in the Fallout 3 add-on Mothership Zeta. Elliott was a medical doctor working in Washington, D.C., who gave up his job and joined the Army, hoping for a good administrative job in the capital. However, much to his dismay, he was shipped to Anchorage, Alaska, after receiving training in cryoscience. Attached to the 108th Infantry Battalion, it was in Anchorage that he was abducted by Zetan aliens aboard Mothership Zeta, kept in stasis for two centuries. As a result, he is a rare combination of incredible competence on account of a formal and practical medical education, and incredible naivete due to never experiencing the wasteland.

16 August

CaesarLegionSymbol
Caesar's Legion is an autocratic, ultra-reactionary, utilitarian society, based on that of the old Roman Empire, co-founded and led by the total dictator Caesar (a former Follower of the Apocalypse). The legionaries are a well-organized, culturally insular fighting force that, as of 2281, mainly operate west of the Grand Canyon and in Arizona, where its capital, Flagstaff, is located. The Legion is comprised mostly of reconditioned tribals and their descendants. Worshipped as the "son of Mars" by his followers, Caesar's ultimate goal is to conquer the New California Republic and merge its civil institutions and infrastructure with the military strength of the Legion, creating a new totalitarian empire. The Legion are foremost practitioners of slavery, and are also well-known for their misogyny and anti-intellectualism. They do, however, repurpose elements of Rome, including its language and aesthetics for the post-apocalypse, in what could be described as affectations. They are one of the four major factions to side with in Fallout: New Vegas.

17 August

Holotape
The holotape is a durable laser-readable storage device produced by Wattz Electronics, based on the tape holography technology, storing their information safely for extended periods of time. Developed as early as 2063, holotapes were the most widespread data storage medium, available in a variety of compatible variants. Holotapes had more uses before the war aside from data storage. Specific models were meant to hold entertainment, such as music, movies, and holotape games, with special-purpose players developed for displaying large, high resolution volumetric images or to play holotapes for personal use in a home environment via holotape players. By 2287, the Institute had holotapes of their own, capable of storing the entirety of libraries, such as the Boston Public Library, onto their storage banks.

18 August

James during GUF
James is a major character in Fallout 3, as well as the father of the Lone Wanderer, the player character of the game. James is the resident doctor of Vault 101 prior to his escape. Before the Lone Wanderer's birth, James was a scientist working on Project Purity, with the goal of bringing purified water to the people of the Capital Wasteland. After the death of his wife, Catherine, in childbirth, James ended the project, as he wanted to raise his child in a safe location. That location became Vault 101, where he was accepted as the Vault's physician. However, during the events of the game, James will leave Vault 101 in order to restart work on Project Purity, causing the Lone Wanderer to follow in James' footsteps, and seek out their father.

19 August

The Rockhound is a world object, workshop, and location in Appalachia, atop Mount Blair, and a major landmark in Fallout 76. Created by Hornwright Industrial, the EXC-97 "Rockhound" bucket-wheel motorized excavator was advertised as an integral part of the lucrative world of strip mining. However, its usage had devastating environmental effects, polluting the entire region and turning the resource-rich mountain into a desolate stretch of land nicknamed the Ash Heap. During the massive riots that erupted after Atomic Mining Services forced miners out of Welch in October 2077, miners took to Mount Blair and seized the Rockhound. For eight days, the miners held out, striking and demanding a right to work, until the National Guard finally cleared out the last of the rebels off the Rockhound.

20 August

Ronald Curtis
Ronald Curtis is an officer of the New California Republic Army, heading Bravo Company at Camp McCarran. The captain's real identity is that of a frumentarius Picus planted several years ago by Caesar's Legion to spy on and sabotage the NCR Army. Officially an upstanding officer of the NCR Army, Ronald Curtis has enjoyed a meteoric rise through the ranks, reaching the rank of captain and position of Bravo Company commander in three and a half years (six months faster than usual). This was not by accident: Curtis is actually a frumentarius sent into the NCR by Caesar years before the Legion arrived on the banks of the Colorado River to challenge the NCR. He is a major character in the quest I Put a Spell on You in Fallout: New Vegas.

21 August

Wise Deathclaw Render
The Wise Deathclaw, also known as Kura or Cura, is an intelligent deathclaw and a character in Fallout Shelter Online, the Asia-exclusive sequel/spin-off of Fallout Shelter. She is an old and wise deathclaw in the Commonwealth, distantly related to Goris and the talking deathclaws in New California. Goris' habit of concealing his identity to travel among humans unbothered influenced Kura, leading to her developing an interest in human affairs and their adventures. She first appears as a mysterious requesting an "heirloom," which turns out to be a deathclaw egg, playing into her reveal. She is later encountered in the Glowing Sea.

22 August

SM vending machine
Sierra Madre vending machines are pre-War devices developed at Big MT, which dispense and redeem numerous items in exchange for Sierra Madre chips, found throughout the Sierra Madre in the Fallout: New Vegas add-on Dead Money. The Great War and the isolation of the Madre resulted in the vending machines becoming the only known surviving examples of the underlying technology. Around 2281, they attracted the attention of a rogue elder of the Brotherhood of Steel, Elijah. As potentially unlimited sources of "food, supplies, medical assistance, ammo... even currency," Elijah saw that the Sierra Madre "can kill nations and build them" if its Cloud, holograms and vending machines were applied in the correct manner.

23 August

FNVOWB Trauma Harness
Y-17 trauma override harnesses are walking corpses, animated by robotic harnesses, in the Big MT in the Fallout: New Vegas add-on Old World Blues. One of the inventions created in Big MT's Y-17 medical facility, the Y-17 trauma harness is a full body suit designed to automatically retrieve injured soldiers and return them to their home base by automatically taking over their motor functions and "walking" them to the base. However, with no defined home base and no ability to detect the death of the users, the suits acted as mobile coffins: soldiers and researchers trapped inside had no ability to shut them down and were forced to suffer a slow, agonizing death. Even after two centuries, the suits, still carrying the bones of their original users. They continue to function, attacking intruders while some have been known to continue manning labs like the Y-17.

24 August

Harold is a unique denizen of the wasteland. He survived the Great War in a vault and has witnessed many pivotal events and met a multiplicity of influential people throughout his travels across the former United States. Rising to prominence as a caravan master in the formative years of the Hub, he would meet the future Master, travel to Mariposa Military Base, undergo a change into a ghoul-like mutant through exposure to FEV, lose everything, then become a wasteland traveler. His journey then took him to the town of Gecko, where he enjoyed a new life for a period of time, and he eventually became an unwilling deity for the Treeminders in the Capital Wasteland, on the opposite end of the continent of where he began. He appears in Fallout, Fallout 2, Fallout 3 and Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel.

Tim Cain 2023
Timothy Cain (born August 25) is the original creator of the Fallout series and setting. He was the lead programmer and producer on Fallout and one of the six people responsible for the game's original design. He was first employed at Interplay Entertainment in 1991, and was initially the only person working on Interplay's GURPS project, which would eventually become Fallout as the team grew and the focus shifted to a new universe. He later left Interplay and work on Fallout 2 for various reasons; he went on to co-found Troika Games and currently works on a consulting and contracting basis at Obsidian Entertainment. Cain is the host of Cain on Games, a YouTube channel where he discusses his experiences within and thoughts on the gaming industry. He has been married to his husband Robert since 2011.

Paradise Falls
Paradise Falls is a strip style shopping mall, and, by 2277, the main haven for all slaver activity in the Capital Wasteland, with business ties to further slave markets in the Pitt. It is a major location in Fallout 3. Paradise Falls is home to a group of battle-hardened slavers. The inhabitants of Paradise Falls are infamous for their incursions into Big Town, and on rare occasions, Little Lamplight. The slavers are also known to seize random wastelanders, and the town is frequently mentioned on the Herbert Dashwood program on Galaxy News Radio.

FNV Hoover Dam C
The Hoover Dam is a major hydroelectric dam situated along the Colorado River which impounds Lake Mead. An invaluable resource for power, the dam lay dormant for many years following the Great War, before the New California Republic took control of it during the Mojave Campaign. However, Caesar's Legion staged an attack on the NCR's position at the dam, and the Legion were narrowly defeated. A flashpoint for conflict in the Mojave Wasteland, both major factions are gearing up for a second battle at Hoover Dam in 2281. The dam is one of the most important story locations in Fallout: New Vegas, and its endgame takes place during the aforementioned second battle.

Church of Harold
The Church of Harold was going to be a faction in Project V13, a canceled online Fallout title by Interplay Entertainment. Active on the West Coast, it was a religious cult focused on worshiping Harold, an FEV mutant who appears throughout the Fallout series. The Church of Harold was founded by FEV mutants Blahblahwanna Rubra and Yaddayadda Glutinos (pre-FEV Bill Smith and Rex Rong) soon after an event simply referred to as the Great Shaking. Rubra and Glutinos' encounter with Harold, or tales of his influence over events in the wasteland, inspired them to create a religious organization.

Fallout 4 Nuka-World add-on packaging
Nuka-World is the sixth add-on for Fallout 4, released on all platforms on August 29, 2016. After listening to a broadcast from the Nuka-World Amusement Park, the Sole Survivor travels to the theme park. Put through a "game" known as the Gauntlet, the Sole Survivor manages to kill Overboss Colter, and becomes the overboss of the three Nuka-World raider gangs - The Operators, The Disciples, and The Pack - and must take over sections of the park and assign them to the raider gangs before setting their sights on a bigger prize, the Commonwealth. The player character can assist any of the three gangs or choose to destroy them, although destroying them results in significantly fewer rewards.

HELIOS One
HELIOS One is a pre-War Poseidon Energy concentrated solar power plant that used to, and potentially still could, generate and provide power to the New Vegas Strip and the regional power grid. It also contains the control system for two experimental satellite weapon systems, ARCHIMEDES and ARCHIMEDES II. It is a major location in the Mojave Wasteland in Fallout: New Vegas, controlled by the New California Republic in 2281. The NCR took over the power plant from the Brotherhood of Steel in an event known as Operation: Sunburst.

ShockCollar-NukaWorld
The slave collar, also known as the prisoner collar or total pacification collar, was a pre-War control device used to enforce discipline through a variety of measures, from non-lethal electric shots to lethal decapitation with explosives. Greatly reducing the need for oversight and personnel expenses, the multiple models of collars became commonly known as a tool to allow slavery to proliferate across the remnants of the United States. The collars are designed to detonate when tampered with, and wearers can be constantly monitored and eavesdropped upon.
