The Document conversion project is a project which aims to make two sets of source documents fully available for reading at the wiki: the Fallout Bible and the Van Buren design documents.
The design documents were previously not available at the wiki at all. The Fallout Bible installments, while available, are not 100% complete and often with broken formatting, so we decided to start anew, this time using an automated conversion first.

Necessary tasksEdit
- Convert the documents from Word/PDF documents to wiki syntax.
- Upload images from original documents.
- Re-add images to converted docs. See #Images for details.
- Fix formatting issues caused by conversion.
- See #Frequent conversion issues for a list of things to look out for.
- Create links from converted documents to wiki articles.
- (Van Buren design documents only) Each design document needs to be split into multiple pages to make them suitable for reading at the wiki.
Frequent conversion issuesEdit
This is basically a collection of common issues people should look out for when checking/fixing the formatting of the converted documents.
- Headlines:
- Headline levels (
==,===etc) are assigned somewhat arbitrarily (depends on how thorough the respective author was with his formatting in Word) and need to checked/fixed. - ALL-CAPS headlines need to be properly formatted.

- Tables:
- Headers need to be formatted: Replace normal cells (
|) with proper header cells (!). - Remove superfluous empty lines in between table rows

- Numbered lists (
#): The converter likes to put empty lines between the list items, which then causes the numbering not to work as the wiki considers each list item to be a list of its own. Empty lines in between need to be removed. - Indents (
:): The converter removes pretty much all indents; these need to be reapplied for better structuring. - Special formatting: Things like coloured text,
strikethroughmarkup etc are usually lost in the conversion and need to be reapplied/replaced with something appropriate.

- Images are usually replaced with
[[Image:]]placeholders in the conversion, which makes it easy to identify the places where they need to be readded. - The images can be found in subcategories of:
