The Fallout Wiki is an encyclopedia by, and for, the fans of Fallout based on the wiki concept, which allows anyone to edit the articles.
History
In 2005, the Fallout wiki was set up by Ausir and DarkUnderlord, and was originally hosted by Duck and Cover, a Fallout fansite at the address wiki.duckandcover.cx, then vault.duckandcover.cx under the name 'The Vault'. Later, it was moved to a different server, but was still hosted by Taluntain, the host of Duck and Cover, at falloutvault.com.
In 2007, because the original host could no longer take the wiki constantly being targeted for various exploits by spammers as well as other attackers, the Fallout Wiki moved to Wikia, where it has been, independently from any other Fallout website. Since the release of Fallout 3 in 2008, it became one of the most popular Wikia gaming wikis.
In November 2011, the Fallout Wiki (The Vault) was moved to FalloutWiki.com, hosted by Curse. This wiki, renamed to Nukapedia in January 2012, is a copy of its contents up to that date.
