Development history

Fallout: New Vegas was announced on April 20, 2009 at Bethesda's London showcase[1].

Story and setting

Setting

Main article: Fallout world

The game is set in a post-apocalyptic world following The Great War between the US and China, a conventional and nuclear war that occurred on October 23, 2077 and lasted less than two hours. Before The Great War were the Resource Wars, during which the United Nations disbanded, a plague rendered the United States paranoid, and Canada was annexed.

Story

The game will probably take place in post-apocalyptic Las Vegas, which was previously only mentioned in the first Fallout (Tycho talked about it). The story will not be related in any way to the one in Fallout 3.

Developers

Fallout: New Vegas is being developed by Obsidian Entertainment, a company founded by Feargus Urquhart and Chris Avellone, two of the makers of Fallout 2 (originally at Black Isle Studios). It is not currently known whether Avellone and Urquhart will be involved. The entire development team is not yet known, but it is known that the project is led by J.E. Sawyer, one of the lead designers of Van Buren, the canceled Fallout 3 project by Black Isle Studios.

Known developers:

Other people at Obsidian who worked on previous Fallout games include Chris Jones, Chris Parker, Darren Monahan and Jesse Reynolds. At least some of them are likely to be on the New Vegas team.
