Evan King is a character in Fallout 3. He is a resident of Arefu and is the lone defender of the town. He is skilled in explosives and does not hesitate to shoot any prospective attackers. Evan King is spoken of rather disparagingly by the town's residents, who heavily criticize his inaction with the recent raids The Family has carried out on Arefu.

When you arrive to Arefu to deliver Lucy West's letter, he will ask you to check onto the residents' welfare. Upon returning to him with news of the West's violent deaths, he will send you to search for Ian West, who was taken away by The Family. He speculates as to three possible locations of where their base is situated. Upon returning Ian to Arefu and making a deal with the Family to protect the town, Evan will allow you to make use of the weapons he has stored.

Inside his house (requires level 50 lockpick to break in), you can find the Repair Bobblehead. The door is marked red but there is no karma lost. It is trespassing while inside though, and if you linger too long the whole town will become hostile to you (as well as The Family depending on how and whether you concluded Blood Ties).

Upon completion of the Blood Ties quest, there will be an extra dialogue option while talking to Evan King. If you choose this option, he will give you one of the many alcoholic drinks for free. Note: You will be able to use this option to gain the drinks as many times as you would like.

Evan King was born in 2222[1].

King's death will cause the remaining Arefu citizens (as well as the Family, if you helped form an alliance between them) to immediately become hostile towards you, even if you had nothing to do with his death (i.e. if he is killed by random monsters climbing the ramp up into Arefu, or if you push him or he falls off one of the unprotected edges of the broken highway overpass Arefu is built on top of).

King wears the +5 barter Trader Cap. If you mez him and his head explodes, you can take it from his inventory. The Family will, as noted, immediately become hostile - but as the Family can now be killed with no karma loss, you stand to gain King's cap as well as the Meresti trader inventory with minimal net karma loss.

It is possible that King will shoot at you if you bring Fawkes to Arefu and get near his house. Fawkes will respond by killing King (no loss of Karma, however), and Lucy West will treat you as if you killed anybody in Arefu (disabling conversation).

King also does not have a key to his own house, so you can't get it from him by picking his pockets or killing him.
