Early Dawn Elementary was a pre-War school located in Washington, D.C. The building is located just north of the GNR building plaza.

Background[]

On October 23, 2077, half of the school's student body, along with several chaperones including Carrie Delaney, Mr. Cob, Claudia and Mr. Pollack, went on a field trip to the Lamplight Caverns.[1] The Great War occurred while the group was still in the cave system, and the surviving elementary school students subsequently established the settlement of Little Lamplight.[2][3][4]

Layout[]

Much of the building has collapsed and decayed in the two centuries after the war. By 2277, the school is a burnt-out structure filled with super mutants. Inside there are school desks, books, chalkboards, and one Nuka-Cola vending machine. The player character must pass through the school during the Following in His Footsteps quest, as it is initially the only way to access the plaza.

The school's layout is much the same in 2287, as part of the "Capital Wasteland Mercenaries" content. However, there are some item and placement changes, and the exits to the rest of Chevy Chase are blocked off. There is a weapons workbench along the western wall, and the corpse of Fisheye can be found on the top floor, next to a missile launcher and a duffle bag.

Appearances[]

Early Dawn Elementary appears in Fallout 3 and the Fallout 4 Creation Club content "Capital Wasteland Mercenaries."

Behind the scenes[]

There is a poster close to the exit depicting the real world Duck and Cover video. The video was a civil defense social guidance film widely distributed to United States school children in the 1950s, instructing what to do in the event of a nuclear explosion.
