ED-E My Love is a quest in Fallout: New Vegas.
Quick walkthrough
After talking to Johnson Nash about ED-E, this quest will be given to the Courier. After heading to the Gibson scrap yard once ED-E is a companion, ED-E will begin playing a recording made by Whitley, an Enclave researcher at Adams Air Force Base. He is sending ED-E, a special prototype for a combat Eyebot, to Navarro for further upgrades.
Detailed walkthrough
ED-E will only trigger the keywords, when the keyword occurs in sentences you and the NPC have never been spoken about before ( the keyword occurs in an answer that is bright yellow instead of dark yellow ).
Obtaining ED-E
Get ED-E in Primm in the Nash residence, the building on the right hand side after walking into Primm from the broken bridge and moving straight ahead until you see a dead courier, the courier is propped up against the house.
To fix the robot you need either 65 repair skill, or 35 with 55 science skill a high repair, or you can fix it with spare parts (you need 1 scrap electronics, 3 scrap metals, and 2 sensor modules).
ED-E's Quest
ED-E was built by an Enclave researcher. It contains research data as well as voice recordings from various Enclave researchers. Unfortunately, ED-E has seen better days. The damage inflicted upon it has made accessing that information troublesome. Luckily, playback of the voice recordings can be triggered if ED-E hears certain keywords spoken by NPCs you meet in your travels.
Playback Event Triggers
- The next playback triggers every 9 day's from the last keyword trigger, even if you don't hit any new keywords.
There are 3 audio clips ED-E needs to play back before the quest can progress. Triggers usually occur while talking to someone who used to be in the Enclave, or who talks about the Enclave, or who talks about important technology. So far these events have triggered playback, more will follow when found:
- To have the 'first message' play talk to Old Lady Gibson at Gibson Scrap Yard.
- To have the 'second message' play talk to Ignacio Rivas at HELIOS One (make sure to ask him about Archimedes). He can be located downstairs near Fantastic.
- After you talked to Ignacio Rivas just have the robot follow you. I was walking down the road to Boulder City when the robot talked again (this time it was the BoS Knight). The only thing I think triggered it was time (no one was talking to me, to trigger keywords). Also I had completed the HELIOS One quest (not sure if that ties in).
- Another message may be found after talking to Doctor Henry at Jacobstown. It appears when you question the doctor about his experience with the Enclave triggers this playback.
- Talking to Quartermaster Mayes at Camp Forlorn Hope about retrieving NCR Dogtags can also trigger a playback.
- Talking with Knight Lorenzo in Hidden Valley has also triggered the 3rd message.
- Also triggered with Dr. Hildern at Camp McCarran only if you bring him the data found in Vault 22 from the quest There Stands the Grass
- Also when trying to gain the BoS trust (without the help of veronica) a key word spoken after killing or convincing the NCR ranger to leave hidden vally activates playback log 2
- Also triggered when you are on the quest I Could Make You Care, after accessing Father Elijah's terminal and speaking with Veronica, activated playback log 2.
- Other possible keywords have been reported as being: Enclave, Navarro, Poseidon, Helios, and Archimedes. A way to incorporate another companion to help in this is to have Arcade Gannon present, as his personal quest being undertaken will result in many of the key words being spoken.
- ED-E also seems to trigger when you first talk to Michael Angelo on his workshop at the New Vegas Strip. It triggered for me when you talked about his "lack of inspiration" and choose the medical answer ( i didn't fulfill the requirements for it, but still asked him about it ). He will name some places he needs photos of and that triggered part 2 of ED-E for me )
NOTE: The logs can be found in almost any order, such as finding log 2 at Jacobstown instead of at HELIOS ONE
Using the "wait" feature will also speed up ED-E's speech events. Use the wait feature in increments of 1 hour inside Old Lady Gibson's house and after that anywhere else in the world.
Conclusion and Reward
Eventually, Knight Lorenzo of the Brotherhood of Steel, currently stationed within the BoS base in Hidden Valley will contact you through ED-E and say he'd like to examine it. His message will be immediately followed by one from April Martimer with the Followers of the Apocalypse, located in the Old Mormon Fort (just inside Freeside's North Gate), who would like you to take ED-E to her instead. The person you choose to take ED-E to will determine the outcome of the quest.
- If the Brotherhood examines ED-E, ED-E will get a defense bonus.
- If you take ED-E to April Martimer she offers to upgrade ED-E's weapons.
- There does not appear to be a fame/infamy reward with the BoS or FotA, which seems odd since both are factions and have reputation systems.
CAUTION: Whoever examines ED-E will require 3-4 days (or maybe just 3-4 waits) to do so and you will lose ED-E as a companion during this duration. Anything you have in ED-E's inventory when he leaves will be gone when he returns.
When the wait to get ED-E is over, the quest advances. A message will appear saying you can pick ED-E back up in Primm to complete the quest.

Bugs
- If you talk to Old Lady Gibson and go through all the dialog before you have ED-E, she will no longer trigger the log. Go speak with Ignacio Rivas instead.[verification overdue]
- Talking about Archimedes II without having ED-E seems to cause problems too, going back after getting him doesn't trigger anything.[verification overdue]
- ED-E seem to have an internal cooldown on the input words, needs to take a day or two before you can advance in the quest chain.[verification overdue]
- This seems to sometimes happen even if you have ED-E as a companion.[verification overdue]
- It is possible to resolve issues with missing dialog using the following console command: setstage 001572e8 10
- Doing so appears to disable Steam achievements until you reload the game, however.
- If you encounter Old Lady Gibson at Helios One and are forced to kill her for hostility, then the quest marker will lead you to her dead body, but nothing can be done. The quest just stays on your Pip-Boy and can not be failed.[verification overdue]
- Even if Old Lady Gibson is dead, speaking with other NPC's around the wasteland can still trigger ED-E.[verification overdue]
- Handing ED-E over for upgrades (Tested with Both Factions) destroys everything in his inventory.[verification overdue]
- This is because the ED-E that goes back to Primm is actually a different npc, with a different ref id.
- When the Brotherhood of Steel contacts you through ED-E (as well as another faction) do not rush the dialogue. A chinese man's voice takes over and the game freezes partially and must be restarted.[verification overdue]
- If you keep ED-E with you, you will get the quest the first time you talk to Old Lady Gibson.[verification overdue]
- After receiving all the 3 initial messages, the last part of the brotherhood audio response is spoken by an way different speaker
- If you manage to repair ED-E before you talk to Johnson Nash you still can complete the quest
Behind the scenes
The name of the quest is a reference to the 1956 song: "Eddie My Love" by The Teen Queens.
