Knight Captain Dusk or Dusky[1] is one of the Lyons' Pride snipers in Fallout 3.

Background[]

Self-confident and a skilled sharpshooter, Dusk is one of two Lyons' Pride snipers, claiming to be the best shot in not only the group, but the entire Brotherhood of Steel chapter.[2][Non-game 1] She is dedicated to honing her craft through live fire drills in the bailey, and does not take kindly to being interrupted by people, though she will converse with them nonetheless.[3][4] She can be heard talking to Paladin Glade during these sessions, expressing disappointment in one of her shots dropping by a few inches and calling her own work "sloppy."[1] She is positive she can penetrate Enclave helmets from 100 yards away, claims she can blow heads off from over 200 meters downrange, and asserts that any "mutie bastard" within a mile of her rifle will singlehandedly end the super mutant conflict.[5][2][6] Should the Lone Wanderer comment on how tough competition for best sniper in the Brotherhood must be, Dusk will describe how difficult it is being a woman in a faction called the "Brotherhood" of Steel, and that even Sarah Lyons has to constantly "prove herself to the knuckle draggers."[7]

If asked her thoughts on super mutants, aside from insisting she can kill any within a mile, Dusk recommends shooting masters in the head from a distance to avoid their "meat grinder" weaponry.[8] She finds the Enclave launching missiles from above as "impersonal," stemming from her preference to snipe enemies one-by-one, but is glad that their armor is thin enough to be penetrated.[9][10] If the Lone Wanderer jokes that Dusk's real name is "Twilight" or "Dawn," she warns that such humor will resort in them getting their teeth broken;[11] similarly, if they tell her that they are not afraid of the Brotherhood, she advises them that such talk will get them injured or land them in the infirmary.[12][13] She may go so far as to threaten to deal with the Lone Wanderer the "old fashioned way" if they do not apologize for poking fun at her name, believing only her friends may joke about such things.[14][15]

Her cold demeanor is known within the Brotherhood as Glade can be overheard telling Dusk how scary she is, to which she replies that multiple people have informed her about this before.[1] She has a distrust for Knight Captain Gallows as he disappears into the wastes for several days and returns without debriefing the group, only reporting to Sentinel Lyons; as such, she does not find Glade's betting pool to be in good taste as she has serious concerns about the soldier.[16] Paladin Kodiak can be overheard attempting to socialize with Dusk, though she brushes him off by notifying him that she has work to do.[17] Despite such mannerisms, she harbors a friendly rivalry with Knight Captain Colvin, the other Pride sniper, joking that he cannot match her kill count and how he is delusional for thinking he can top her shooting skills.[2][6]

Relationships[]

Dusk is a member of the Lyons' Pride. She has a fairly friendly rivalry with Knight Captain Colvin, who is the Pride's other sniper, competing over kill counts and who the better shot is. She and Paladin Glade converse during live fire drills, where he compliments her shooting abilities, but she has a distrust for Knight Captain Gallows due to his secretive persona.

  • It is possible to taunt her into threatening the player character. However, when the player character meets her at the area she told them to, "in the den after lights out," nothing happens.
  • Although the player character can taunt her about being a better shot, during the quest Take it Back!, she can be seen shooting across the entire span of the Potomac River, a nigh-impossible feat for the player character to accomplish.

Notable quotes[]

  • "You cap a few radscorpions, and you think you own the place."
  • "If that doesn't work, then you meet me in the Lyons' Den by lights out. I'll solve your little problem. The old fashioned way."

Appearances[]

Knight Captain Dusk appears only in Fallout 3.

Behind the scenes[]

  • Her quote "Remember: One shot. One kill." is a phrase coined by snipers around the world.
  • Her quote "Put any mutie bastard within one mile of me and my rifle and, well... pack it up troops. Fight's over." is a reference to Private Jackson from the movie Saving Private Ryan.
  • She will express confidence in her ability to fight the Enclave, saying "I can't wait to see if one of those helmets can stop a hollow point round at 100 yards. I'm thinking... not." However, hollow point rounds are designed to expand on impact, therefore making penetration of such helmets indeed unlikely.

Knight Captain Dusk: "Bullshit. That third shot dropped by a couple of inches."
Paladin Glade: "Are you kidding? A couple of inches? So you get the nose instead of the eye. Who cares?"
Knight Captain Dusk: "I care. If I were aiming for his nose, that'd be fine. But I wasn't. I was going for the eye. Sloppy..."
Paladin Glade: "You're really scary, Dusk. Has anyone ever told you that?"
Knight Captain Dusk: "A few people. But I don't get tired of hearing it."

  2. 2.0 2.1 2.2 The Lone Wanderer: "So what's your story?"
Knight Captain Dusk: "My 'story'? I blow the head off of anything more'n two hundred meters downrange. I'm the best shot in the Brotherhood of Steel, bar none. Not even Colvin can match my kill count. That's my 'story.'"
    (Knight Captain Dusk's dialogue)
  3. Knight Captain Dusk: "What? Can you not see that I'm concentrating here? You're gonna get your head blown off if you aren't careful. What do you want anyway?"
    (Knight Captain Dusk's dialogue)
  4. Knight Captain Dusk: "Dammit! What's wrong with you? This is a firing range, not a nursery it's dangerous here. What do you want?"
    (Knight Captain Dusk's dialogue)
  5. The Lone Wanderer: "So... Any thoughts on the Enclave?"
Knight Captain Dusk: "Honestly? I can't wait to see if one of those helmets can stop a hollow-point round at 100 yards. I'm thinking... not."
    (Knight Captain Dusk's dialogue)
  6. 6.0 6.1 The Lone Wanderer: "What do you do here?"
Knight Captain Dusk: "I'm a sniper with the Pride. Put any mutie bastard within one mile of me and my rifle and, well... pack it up troops. Fight's over. Colvin thinks he's a better shot. Man's delusional."
    (Knight Captain Dusk's dialogue)
  7. The Lone Wanderer: "That's impressive. Competition must be stiff around here."
Knight Captain Dusk: "Damn right it is. Last time I checked, it wasn't called the 'Sisterhood of Steel.' Hell, even Sarah has to prove herself to the knuckle draggers. Every once in a while, we have to show 'em what's what."
    (Knight Captain Dusk's dialogue)
  8. The Lone Wanderer: "Care to share anything about the Super Mutants?"
Knight Captain Dusk: "I can tell you that those heavily armored ones, the Masters? They favor heavy weapons Miniguns and Missile Launchers. My recommendation headshot from a distance. Avoid the meat grinder."
    (Knight Captain Dusk's dialogue)
  9. The Lone Wanderer: "So... Any thoughts on the Enclave?"
Knight Captain Dusk: "There's no sport in launching missiles from space. It's so... Impersonal."
    (Knight Captain Dusk's dialogue)
  10. The Lone Wanderer: "So... Any thoughts on the Enclave?"
Knight Captain Dusk: "Their armor isn't as thick as it could be. I'm not complaining."
    (Knight Captain Dusk's dialogue)
  11. The Lone Wanderer: "Dusk? Oh, let me guess! Your real name's Dawn. Or is it Twilight?"
Knight Captain Dusk: "Ha. Funny. Here's some free advice: You're our guest, so I'd be real careful about who you insult. That sort of thing might fly out in the Wastes, but here in the Citadel, it'll earn you a few broken teeth."
    (Knight Captain Dusk's dialogue)
  12. The Lone Wanderer: "Please. Like I'm afraid of you people."
Knight Captain Dusk: "See? That. Right there. That's the sort of shit that gets a man injured."
    (Knight Captain Dusk's dialogue)
  13. The Lone Wanderer: "Please. Like I'm afraid of you people."
Knight Captain Dusk: "See? That. Right there. That's the sort of shit that'll land a little girl like you in the infirmary."
    (Knight Captain Dusk's dialogue)
  14. The Lone Wanderer: "I've had enough of your shit, Dusk."
Knight Captain Dusk: "Oh? Oh really? Look, I know how you wasters are. You cap a few Radscorpions and think you can walk around like you own the fucking place. But things work differently around here. You got a problem with that, then you go ahead and meet me in the Lyons' Den after lights out. I'll solve your little problem the old fashioned way."
    (Knight Captain Dusk's dialogue)
  15. The Lone Wanderer: "Sorry, I was just joking around."
Dusk: "Yeah, see... my friends can joke about my name. Last I checked you're not on that list. But I'll let it go, you just watch yourself."
    (Knight Captain Dusk's dialogue)
  16. The Lone Wanderer: "What do you think about Gallows?"
Knight Captain Dusk: "I don't trust him. I know, I know, I should take faith in my brother, but he disappears for days out into the Wastes. He comes back without a word. He only reports to Sentinel Lyons, and doesn't tell the rest of us what he's up to. I can't trust a soldier like that. The other guys, they think it's a joke. Glade's even got a betting pool going to find out Gallows' real name. A betting pool. Honestly..."
    (Knight Captain Dusk's dialogue)
  17. Paladin Kodiak: "Hey hey, Dusky. How's it going?"
Knight Captain Dusk: "For someone who should be preparing for an assault, you seem to have a lot of time to be social."
Paladin Kodiak: "Oh, please. I'm ready for anything, at all times. I'm just that awesome. You know that."
Knight Captain Dusk: "Well, the rest of us have work to do."
(Knight Captain Dusk and Paladin Kodiak's dialogue)
