Dinner Bell is a weapon in Fallout: New Vegas. It is a unique variant of the hunting shotgun.

Background
Edit
A shotgun, also called a "scattergun", is a firearm designed to shoot a multitude of lead or steel balls of varying sizes. This makes it very effective at hunting game, greatly increasing the weapon's hit potential. However, the accuracy and power found at close range diminish rapidly as you get farther away from the target. Shotguns designed for military use are often called "combat shotguns".
Characteristics
Edit
Dinner Bell is a unique variant of the hunting shotgun. It differs in appearance to the standard shotgun with the metal of the barrel, receiver, and shell ejection port seem to appear to be more well-maintained, and that the stock and pump are synthetic with a camouflage pattern.
This weapon, like most unique weapons, cannot be modified, with either the longtube or the choke modifications, but the weapon already incorporates the choke and has a reduced spread when compared to the unmodified hunting shotgun. Dinner Bell still has the advantage of greater damage compared to a fully-modified hunting shotgun.
Durability
Edit
Dinner Bell can fire a total of about 745 standard shells, the equivalent of 149 reloads, from full condition before breaking.
| Ammunition type | Durability | |
|---|---|---|
| Shots | Reloads | |
| Standard, 4/0 buck, slug, coinshot, bean bag, flechette, Dragon's Breath & pulse slug | 745 | 149 |
| Magnum & 4/0 buck magnum | 648 | 130 |
Variants
Edit
- Hunting shotgun, the standard variant found throughout the Mojave Wasteland.

Location
Edit
Dinner Bell is given as a reward by Red Lucy in The Thorn, after completing the quest Bleed Me Dry.
Notes
Edit
- The collector's edition of the Fallout: New Vegas Official Game Guide from Prima Games lists the weapon location as being obtainable in the nuclear test shack in addition to completing Bleed Me Dry, which is Outdated. Prior to the first patch it is indeed found there, but even if you obtain it before you apply the patch it will disappear leaving a normal hunting shotgun.
Bugs
Edit
- Switching to the ammunition types when there is less than a full reload of that ammunition type while moving will cause a looped reloading sequence. [verified]
- It can be easily fixed by simply changing ammunition type once more, or switching weapons.
- Using this weapon in V.A.T.S. may cause the player's character to freeze and not fire at the intended target. The player will be stuck in the third person view for up to 15 seconds and be vulnerable to attack. This only happens while the bug above is in effect because the weapons pump/chamber will be open, making the weapon incapable of firing until the V.A.T.S. sequence is over, and the courier finishes the pump.
