Isn't it fabulous? Sitting up here in the Stands? You'll get addicted to it.— Darcy Pembroke

Darcy Pembroke is a resident of Diamond City in 2287. She is the wife of Paul Pembroke and the mother of Pete Pembroke. She can first be found drinking inside the Colonial Taphouse.

Background[]

Since her youth, Darcy has dreamed of escaping her average life in Diamond City and making it into the high-class society of the Upper Stands. This is at least partly what attracted her to her husband Paul, who was wealthy and promised to give her the life she had always wanted. However, as the years went by, Paul ended up making poor decisions and losing his money. Desperate, he began turning to all sorts of dubious get-rich-quick schemes, all of which have also failed so far.[1][2]

Utterly disappointed by Paul and his failures, Darcy began to regret her entire relationship with him, though she does not regret having her son Pete.[3] She began frequenting the Colonial Taphouse to vent to the bartender Henry Cooke, who was close with Paul. However, as time went on, she began to enjoy the escape from her everyday life this gave her, and she ended up having an affair with Cooke.[4][5][6] Though they try to hide it, everyone in Diamond City ended up knowing about their affair, and not many people think highly of their actions. Cathy and Sheffield, for instance, see Darcy as shallow and idiotic for marrying Paul for his money, then proceeding to cheat on him.[7][8] Even Paul himself knows, and he is none too happy about it.

Quests[]

  • The Marowski Heist: This quest is started if Paul Pembroke died for any reason during the events of Diamond City Blues.
    • Initially, Darcy will only ask the Sole Survivor about what happened to Paul. If the Sole Survivor killed Paul, and tells her so, she will recoil in anger and the quest will not be given. If she is told that he died for some other reason, she will spend a length of time in mourning. Otherwise, agreeing to help her but not telling her of Paul's fate will also lead to the quest.
    • Afterwards, she will approach the Sole Survivor again to formally start this quest: Darcy has discovered an incriminating photo among Paul's belongings, and it could be worth a lot to the right people. She wants to use the photo to provide for her son, and leaves the work to the Sole Survivor's discretion. She will have differing responses depending on how many caps the Sole Survivor is able to gain from the photo and give to her. If one chooses to keep the entire profit instead of splitting it with her, she will be disgusted and treat them with disdain for the rest of the game.

Effects of player's actions[]

  • If Henry Cooke is convinced to stop his affair with her during Diamond City Blues, she will begin spending time at the Dugout Inn.
  • If Paul takes over the Colonial Taphouse from Cooke, Darcy will begin living in the Cooke residence alongside him.
  • If one refused to help Paul and did not follow him into the Colonial Taphouse, Paul will be killed offscreen by Cooke. Darcy will later ask for help in finding Paul, and if Cooke is persuaded to reveal what happened to Paul, Darcy can be told that Cooke killed Paul. She will proceed to stay in her house for the rest of the game and mourn Paul.
  • Colette, Cooke's daughter, may potentially kill Paul offscreen if she was convinced by the player that Paul killed her father. This occurs if Paul was angered by being given an unequal split during Diamond City Blues. Afterwards, Darcy will approach the player to reveal this, distraught.

Appearances[]

Darcy Pembroke appears only in Fallout 4.

Behind the scenes[]

  • Implemented, but seemingly bugged, scripting and dialogue show that, in the path where Diamond City Blues is refused and Cooke kills Paul offscreen, Darcy would eventually start the quest The Marowski Heist sometime after being informed of Paul's fate. In this path, Cooke would not be absent from the events of Diamond City Blues and would thus become another blackmail and/or assassination target. Darcy, knowing that Cooke killed Paul, would reveal that she would have no qualms about getting Cooke killed by Marowski.
  • In localized versions of the game, Darcy Pembroke's voice is dubbed by Silvana Fantini (Italian).

References[]

  1. The Sole Survivor: "Why do you need the money so bad?"
Paul Pembroke: "It's Darcy. I've been nothing but a disappointment to her. When we got married I was rich, young and handsome. Since then... nothing has gone my way. This is my chance to make a new start. With Cooke gone, I can buy his house and we can finally live in the Stands like Darcy's always wanted."
    (Paul Pembroke's dialogue)
  2. The Sole Survivor: "He tried to rob some chem dealers."
Darcy Pembroke: "Oh, my god. He always had some new scheme to get rich. But I never thought he would do something like that. Thank you for telling me what you know. I... I have to go now. Good-bye."
    (Darcy Pembroke's dialogue)
  3. Darcy Pembroke: "Paul and I have a child. I regret a lot of things, but not my little Pete."
    (Darcy Pembroke's dialogue)
  4. The Sole Survivor: "Paul, put the gun away. Nobody needs to get shot here."
    Paul Pembroke: "Screw that."
Henry Cooke: "Hold on. I'm sure we can work this out."
    Paul Pembroke: "Keep talking."
Henry Cooke: "Look, I'll, uh, I'll stay away from Darcy from now on. It's over. You have my word on that."
Paul Pembroke: "Your word? What's your fucking word worth, huh?"
Henry Cooke: "I'll make it up to you! I know a way to get a lot of money. Right now. You and I both know the only reason Darcy comes up here is she's pissed at you. If you were flush again, everything would be different. Besides, I owe you. For what I've done."
Paul Pembroke: "Well... what do you think?"
(Paul Pembroke's and Henry Cooke's dialogue)
  5. The Sole Survivor: "Think this through. Darcy isn't worth dying for - or killing for."
Henry Cooke: "You know what? You're right. This whole thing with Darcy and me... bad idea, I admit it. Not like I planned it or anything. She was just always hanging around here. You know how it is. Look. Tell Paul it's over. I swear. I won't even let her in my bar anymore. Is that good enough for you?"
    (Henry Cooke's dialogue)
  6. Darcy Pembroke: "Isn't it fabulous? Sitting up here in the Stands? You'll get addicted to it."

  7. Darcy Pembroke: "Cathy, have you seen Paul around? He's... well, he's missing, and I'm getting worried about him."
Cathy: "You're worried? I thought that would be a wish come true for you."
Darcy Pembroke: "Why would you say that? I love Paul!"
Cathy: "At least you loved his money. When he had any."
Darcy Pembroke: "I don't have to stand here and listen to this."

  8. Darcy Pembroke: "Hi Sheffield. I'm looking for Paul. Have you seen him?"
Sheffield: "Paul's finally run off, eh? Not surprising, married to the likes of you."
Darcy Pembroke: "What a horrible thing to say."
Sheffield: "He's probably better off, wherever he is."
Darcy Pembroke: "What would you know. You're nothing but a no-good drunk."
Sheffield: "Takes one to know one, ha ha ha. See you around, Darcy!"
Darcy Pembroke: "Every time I talk to you I regret it."
