Combat Inhibitor

From The Vault

All robots in Fallout 3 have a combat inhibitor located on their back.

The Combat Inhibitor on Sergeant RL-3

[edit] Uses

Destroying a robot's Combat Inhibitor will cause it to attack every entity with which it comes into contact. This is not unlike the frenzy that attacking the Giant Ant's or Fire Ant's antennae will cause (though much harder to accomplish, since the Combat Inhibitor is located at the back of the robot's body). Also it appears that robots "personality" are limited by a combat inhibitor as Cerberus will say that he hates ghouls but his inhibitor prevents him from killing them.

[edit] Notes

  • Don't bother aiming for the inhibitor if you're the only one near the robot; it's a waste of ammo.
  • Although, if it is near other enemies, it will attack them as well..
  • In the time a robot is frenzied, other enemies may diverge attention towards it. Take the chance to pop a few heads.
  • In Underworld, Cerberus's combat inhibitor can be removed via dialogue options(Robotics Expert perk needed). He will then go crazy and attack all the ghouls in Underworld. However, he won't get far as the ghouls will most likely kill him easily, as was the case with this author.
  • Shooting the combat inhibitor multiple times can kill the robot.
  • The combat inhibitor can sometimes be hard to hit, this could result in accidental killing of the robot.
