The coastal monument, also known as the Blackhall Needle, is a monument west of Blackhall Manor.

Background[]

This monument honors Captain John Smith, the explorer who discovered Point Lookout in 1612. The monument is built on the site where Smith first landed. However, few locals can still read the monument's plaque, so it is remembered more for its location near Blackhall Manor than its historical relevance.[1]

Layout[]

It features a central obelisk with a commemorative plaque and some benches. There can also be miscellaneous items nearby as well as at the other relatively close campsite and dock areas. This area may at times be infested by swamp ghouls.

Now it’s known colloquially as Blackhall Needle due to its close proximity to Blackhall Manor [1.02], and the fact most of the locals can’t read this plaque. This is just northeast of the Blackhall Jetty [4.B]."
