Stand aside, comrade, while we deal with these Imperialist dogs.

Chinese commandos are simulated People's Liberation Army soldiers, a part of the Tranquility Lane simulation in Fallout 3.

Background[]

The Iron Army PLA commandos were originally designed for a virtual reality combat exercise, designated Military Training Program 923-B: Chinese Invasion. The program simulated a Chinese attack on American soil, and the commandos were programmed accordingly. However, as the simulation was designed for military, not civilian hardware, and the version obtained by Braun from General Chase came with all the failsafes removed, the commandos were not so much part of an exercise, but an elaborate suicide tool to be used if Braun grew bored of the simulation and life.[1]

Tranquility Lane

Quests[]

  • Tranquility Lane: Activating the training program is one of the ways to resolve the quest. Once the failsafe is activated, a squad of commandos spawns in Tranquility Lane and sweeps through the area, killing everyone in their path except for the Lone Wanderer, Betty and Doc.
    • Commandos are marked as essential and cannot be killed. If knocked unconscious, they will get up in short order and continue the killing.

Appearances[]

Chinese commandos appear only in Fallout 3.

Behind the scenes[]

  • When interacted with, they will only reply in Mandarin Chinese, saying "同志站开,我们正在处理这些帝国主义走狗。" (Pinyin: Tóngzhì zhànkāi, wǒmen zhèngzài chǔlǐ zhèxiē dìguózhǔyì zǒugǒu, Comrades, stand off, we are dealing with these imperialist lackeys.), translated in the subtitles as "Stand aside, comrade, while we deal with these imperialist dogs."
  • In terms of vocabulary, this is accurate, but the diction is very stilted. The voice actor stresses every syllable, which makes the voice acting unnatural, unrealistic, but befitting an American simulation of a communist stormtrooper.
