Cave fungus is a consumable in Fallout 3, Fallout: New Vegas, Fallout 4 add-on Far Harbor, and Fallout 76.
Biology[]
These orders of fungi are typically red and white, glowing green, or brain-like mushroom caps that only grow in cool, dark and damp environments, like caves. The red and white variety have a particularly useful mutation for humans that allows them to absorb radiation out of bodily tissue when eaten. This cave fungi can also be used to craft hydra, a chem that quickly regenerates crippled limbs.
Variants[]
Cave fungus[]
Cave fungi are food items that, when consumed, restore Hit Points and reduce the consumer's radiation level. In Fallout 3, they appear as pieces of fungi skewered on a stick, like a "kebab" (identical to the appearance of iguana bits and strange meat). While in the Fallout: New Vegas add-on, Honest Hearts, they appear as red mushroom caps. They are difficult to find in the Mojave Wasteland, and are mainly used to make hydra at campfires.
Mutant cave fungus[]
Only found in irradiated caverns, the mutant cave fungus is used to make black blood sausages and other consumables. Instead of reducing radiation, the mutant cave fungus adds radiation to its consumer and emits a green glow.
