Protector Henry Casdin is the leader of the Brotherhood of Steel Outcasts in the Capital Wasteland in 2277.
Contents |
[edit] Background
According to Elder Owyn Lyons, he was one of the best fighters in the Capital Wasteland Brotherhood of Steel before he took other Brotherhood members and formed the Outcasts in order to continue the original mission. He trades with the Lone Wanderer for technology that is acquired across the Wasteland and in return for useful supplies that the Outcasts possess in abundance (see The Outcast Collection Agent).
If asked about the Outcasts, he will comment on how he fought side by side with Elder Lyons in the scourge of the Pitt. He recalls how the Brotherhood was forced to watch after small towns instead of gathering technology. This ultimately led to the the split of the Brotherhood and Protector Casdin becoming the Outcast leader.
[edit] Daily schedule
Protector Casdin can be found standing at the entrance to Fort Independence, the Brotherhood Outcasts headquarters. He holds the key to Fort Independence. The player can unlock the side quest of scavenging for technology by first speaking with Defender Morgan.
[edit] Interactions with the player character
- Main page: The Outcast Collection Agent
You can trade some pieces of power armor, some energy weapons, sensor modules, and scrap metal to Casdin. In return he'll give you your choice of the following, in quantities according to the perceived value of the item:
Once the Lone Wanderer has gained 50 "points" (see table on the quest's main page), they are told that they are considered friendly by the Outcasts. This allows for infiltration of Fort Independence without encountering the hostility of the residents (see Getting In).
If you own Outcast Power Armor before encountering Protector Casdin for the first time, he will confiscate it, even if you are wearing it.
[edit] Inventory
| Apparel | Weapon | Other item | On death |
|---|---|---|---|
| Outcast Power Armor* Outcast Power Helmet* |
Ripper** | - | - |
* He will equip any other Power Armor that is given to him if it is in better condition.
** He will not equip any other weapon that is given to him, with the exception of the Alien Blaster, if he is also given Alien Power Cells.
[edit] Notes
- Casdin automatically repairs any items you give him to full 100% condition. Giving him the alien blaster is one of few ways (With Broken Steel or Mothership Zeta) to restore that weapon to 100% condition. Be careful, though, as he will equip the weapon if he also has Alien Power Cells.
- A creature spawn point might happen inside the fence next to Casdin and users will find Casdin a very weak fighter. If Casdin is reverse-pickpocketed a plasma rifle and ammo he will equip it during a fight and stand a much better chance. If Casdin can (borrow) your Alien Blaster and 12 Alien Power Cells (i.e. Given to him) he can stand his own in any fight.
- Protector Casdin cannot be mezzed.
- Casdin is armed with a Ripper, and will never switch to another weapon unless you give him ammunition for that weapon. This includes the Alien Blaster, whose Alien Power Cells can also be traded. As a result, he tends to charge directly at any random enemies that wander near Fort Independence. Other than his Power Armor, Casdin's durability is strictly average, so this can get him killed.
[edit] Bugs
- If Casdin sees you pick the lock on the door, the next time the player exits their base, he may be hostile. Killing him will cause negative Karma and hostility from the Outcasts. However if a follower is to kill Casdin without the player's intervention, there is no consequence and all items given to Casdin can be recovered. If other Outcasts such as Anne Marie Morgan are around while Casdin goes hostile via this condition, they too will target and kill Casdin.
- If you enter the fort before talking to him outside, he will offer 2 dialog options and become hostile. But if he goes outside, you can talk to him about turning in items.
- In rare cases, Casdin may be found in an incorrect location. Casdin's body has allegedly been found in the Fairfax Ruins, lying dead at the bottom of the ramp leading up to the raider base.
- Casdin may enter Fort Independence and never exit.
- When giving Casdin items like Scrap Metal, it is possible to take the item(s) back by pickpocketing him, thus letting you trade the item(s) back to him again and again.
- It is also possible to give Casdin unlimited Scrap Metal, although you don't have any. See the Scrap Metal discussion page for more information.
[edit] Appearances
Henry Casdin only appears in Fallout 3.
