Caleb Smith is the stonemason of the Temple of the Union in 2277.

Background[]

Caleb escaped slavery eight years ago. He was successful while his fellow slaves John and Liesel were not. During his time as a slave, his master taught him the art of stone cutting. When he ran away from his master, he fell into a band of raiders.[1] Once he heard about Hannibal Hamlin and the Temple of the Union however, he promptly left the raiders and joined Hannibal. He is the first of Hannibal's followers and uses the skills he learned from his master to restore any stone structure Hannibal asks of him, with hopes of restoring the statue of Lincoln at the Lincoln Memorial by reaffixing its head.[2][Non-game 1][Non-game 2] Caleb uses and prefers melee weapons rather than armed weapons, as he can be heard asking Simone to teach him how to operate firearms.[3]

Daily schedule[]

Caleb can always be found at the Temple of the Union. When the escaped slaves relocate to the Lincoln Memorial, he will be found there.

Slaves are not so much a faction as a collections of victims. No one is safe from slavery in the Wasteland. If you are weak or venerable, you may be taken as a slave.
There is a band of abolitionist slaves deep in the Wasteland. They are all escaped slaves, seeking to end slavery for all time. You can learn more about them in Miscellaneous Quest: Head of State."
