Caching in with Three Dog

Caching in with Three Dog refers to an unmarked quest in Fallout 3.
This quest can be activated after you discover your father's whereabouts from someone other than Three Dog, or by using a successful Speech check to have him tell you where your father is. This is an alternate quest reward if you decide to complete the Galaxy News Radio quest anyway. After you finish the quest, Three Dog compliments your dedication and then gives you a note titled "The Weapons Cache", the key to the weapons cache and the map marker for Hamilton's Hideaway where the cache is located.
Although "The Weapons Cache" note says "Enclosed, you'll find the coordinates to the weapons cache... in Hamilton's Hideaway," there is no map to show you the actual location of the cache. In addition, since this is an unmarked quest, it is not possible to use "Show active quest notes" to find the precise location of the cache. The cache is behind a cell door in the northwestern-most area, behind some rubble.

- What kind of armor and helmet you receive may depend on your character's level.
- You are still able to achieve this quest even after he's told you your father's location. You must have a high enough speech level to convince him to tell you your father's location rather than contributing to "The Good Fight." He will give you your father's location, after which you can return to him and ask to contribute to "The Good Fight" and he will give you the key to his stash upon completion of that mission: Galaxy News Radio.
- An alternate way to get this quest is to do all the steps in the GNR quest up to the point where you attach the dish to the Washington Monument. Instead of going back to Three Dog for your reward, talk to Doctor Li about your father first. When you go back to Three Dog, he will give you the key to the cache and tell you where it is.
- You can obtain many of the items in the room without doing the quest, simply by firing missiles through the bars of the door, letting the explosions ricochet the items to you. It is possible to get the Guns and Bullets, the Mini Nuke, several Frag Grenades and Assault Rifles, and possibly more.
- You can use Dogmeat to search for ammo which may help find the hard-to-find door.
