Bryan Wilks is an eight-year old[1] boy living in Grayditch in 2277. He gives the player the quest, Those!.

Contents

[edit] Background

Bryan spent his childhood living in Grayditch with his single-parent father. Bryan often played with the teenage son of William Brandice. Together, the two boys explored all of Grayditch and learned the best places to hide from giant ants. Bryan also pestered Doctor Lesko with questions.

[edit] Interactions with the player character

Main article: Those!

Bryan runs up to the player and initiates dialogue the first time the player approaches the vicinity of Grayditch. This does not require the player to enter Grayditch. For instance, going to Wilhelm's Wharf or Super-Duper Mart may cause Bryan to come running. Bryan tasks the player with helping to save his father from an attack of Fire ants, leading quickly into the quest Those!. He spends much of the quest hiding in a locked Personal Protection Booth near his home, waiting for the player to find Doctor Lesko.

When Bryan comes to give you the quest, there is a speech challenge where he will either give you the key to his father's emergency supplies or lie to you about it. Having the Child at Heart perk ensures he gives you the key. Without the key, you will have to pick the Very Hard lock on the dumpster, and it contains a .32 Pistol,Laser Pistol or Scoped .44 Magnum and numerous Frag Grenades (the items in the dumpster may be dependent on the player's level at the time it is opened).

At the end of the quest, Bryan is left orphaned and goes to live in his former home. The player has an option to find his Aunt Vera Weatherly in Rivet City, to find Bryan a home in Little Lamplight, to sell him to Slavers, or to abandon him to his fate.

[edit] Notes

  • Once the quest Those! is over, you cannot find a home for Bryan. You can't mezz him and take him to the Slavers either. Instead, talk to Eulogy about selling him, then go to Bryan and ask him to put on the slave collar. However, for some reason Bryan never makes it to Paradise Falls and choosing this option will make Bryan disappear. This may be because Eulogy has a prospective buyer in mind when you talk to him.

[edit] Appearances

Bryan only appears in Fallout 3.

[edit] Behind the scenes

  • While in the shelter, Bryan will say "Now I know what a TV dinner feels like". This is a reference to Die Hard, where John McClane is crawling through a narrow ventilation shaft.

[edit] Bugs

  • If you murder Vera Weatherly after Bryan moves in with her, Bryan may appear inside of the Enclave garrison outside of the Jefferson Memorial during the final quest. Strangely, Enclave soldiers will be allied with Bryan but Brotherhood troops are hostile and will open fire on Bryan. (XBox 360)
  • The location of Bryan may glitch, and Bryan may be located in a unreachable area a bit southwest of the Flooded Metro next to Arlington Cemetery North, resulting in the player becoming incapable of finishing the quest "Those!" (See: Recovering Missing NPC's in Fallout 3 (PC Only).)
