Your brain has been replaced with advanced technologies: Your head can no longer be crippled and is resistant to chem addiction (+25% resistance) and shock from bodily damage (+5% Damage Threshold, minimum +1).Fallout: New Vegas description

Brainless is a special perk in the Fallout: New Vegas add-on Old World Blues.

Obtaining[]

This perk is rewarded automatically along with Heartless and Spineless while talking to Klein and the Think Tank during Welcome to the Big Empty, when the conversation comes to the topic of the Courier's brain, heart, and spine being removed and replaced with Big MT technology.

After completing Old World Blues, if it was installed, the Sink Auto-Doc can optionally be used to swap it with Big Brained and vice versa.

Effects[]

Gaining this perk grants a permanent immunity to crippling for the player character's head, a 5% increase to DT (minimum +1), and a 25% decrease in the chance of becoming addicted to chems.

Notes[]

  • While all three perks are available as soon as one appears on the Sink balcony at the start of the add-on and can be viewed in the Perks section of the Pip-Boy, they are not introduced until talking to the Think Tank.
  • Compared to the Big Brained perk, this perk gives an additional 15% chem addiction resistance but 5% less DT.
  • The DT added by this perk and by Big Brained does not work correctly; see this discussion. A fix for the PC version is available here.
  • Pairing the perk with Chem Resistant and Old World Gourmet results in a 72% resistance to addiction, which is significant enough to rarely become addicted.
    • It may seem to synergize poorly with Eye for Eye, as it reduces the total number of limbs that can be crippled. However, the trade-off for losing a potential 10% damage bonus is eliminating the blurred-vision effect, which is a significantly greater detriment than the effects caused by other crippled limbs, which can be countered via speed-boosting perks or accuracy-enhancing chems.
  • Brainless and Big Brained share the same Vault Boy image.

Behind the scenes[]

"Brainless" is a derogative term typically said of someone who is cognitively impaired and/or lacks a sense of wit.
