Bloody Mess is a Fallout, Fallout 2 and Fallout Tactics trait, as well as a Fallout 3 perk.
[edit] Fallout, Fallout 2 and Fallout Tactics
By some strange twist of fate, people around you die violently. You always see the worst way a person can die.
This trait does not alter gameplay other than the fact that you get to see the violent death animations more often. However, it does have an effect on the ending of Fallout.
Note: Bloody Mess has a positive impact if you plan to use the Super Sledge. If someone dies the death is instant instead of first rolling down half of the game screen.
[edit] Fallout 3
As traits were completely removed from Fallout 3; Bloody Mess was changed into a perk.
Aside from people around you always dying violently, you’ll also do 5% extra damage with all weapons.
[edit] Notes
- Keep in mind that exploded corpses can be difficult to loot as you have to find a body part somewhere in the vicinity. On the other hand, enemies in hard to reach locations can be easier to loot when their pieces fall into an easier to reach location. Particularly handy for looting the Drifter for the Reservist's Rifle, and the Super Mutants found in the skywalk near the Irradiated Metro (CW).
- This perk is more useful if you plan to carry and use a wide variety of weapons since its 5% bonus is applied across the board. Consider, however, that for most weapons, a 5% increase in damage is very unlikely to make much of a difference (on average, 2-3 extra damage per hit or less). The Fat Man or the Experimental MIRV will benefit the most from this perk, adding up to 80 damage (or 640 damage for the MIRV).
- You Gotta Shoot 'Em in the Head can be harder to complete with this perk, since head shots may not count as such if other limbs are blown off by the shot, which is an extremely common occurrence if you have Bloody Mess.
- In the German version, which is free of all blood and physical sundering, there is no change in the battle and death animations .
