Binoculars are classified as a weapon in Fallout: New Vegas.

Characteristics

Generic binoculars enabling a zoom function marginally better than the standard zoom on unscoped weapons.

Use

The binoculars are equipped like a weapon but can't be used like a weapon. They hang at your side like a pistol when not drawn. Use the Zoom function with them drawn to look through them.

Locations

  • One can be obtained through the Caravan Pack pre-order bonus, but are not exclusive.
  • Fully repaired Binoculars can also be found in the basement of the Lucky 38 casino.
  • Binoculars can also be purchased in Primm.
  • A pair of binoculars is available on a ledge above the Bison Steve Hotel in Primm. Just walk along the broken roller coaster track from the left side building before you enter.
  • A pair is in Sloan that can be stolen located in the northern sandbag barrier on the road.
  • A pair is located at Ranger Station Echo (Approx. where Lucky Jim Mine and Cliffside Prospector Camp intersect) on a crate at the NE sandbag lookout.
  • At the Mojave Outpost, there are two sets that can be acquired. One pair can be found on a table next to the NCR Sniper, Ranger Ghost. The second pair can be found in the far end of the Outpost at the gates leading to California. There is a guard stationed on the right side of the gate, and the binoculars are located in a small guard post to the left of the gate. NOTE: Both pairs of binoculars are marked with red "Steal" tags.
  • There is one close to Ranger Station Delta near Hoover Dam. Keep walking past the camp site down the trail and you will see water shooting out the dam wall and a chair with binoculars by it. NOTE: These are marked with red "Steal" tag.
  • A pair of Binoculars can be found in the Cottonwood Cove HQ on the shelf above the Desk in the South West corner of the room.
  • A pair can be found in your suite in the Lucky 38 on a shelf to the right in the room with the pool table.
  • There's a pair on the way up to the Overseer's Office in Vault 3 on a shelf.
  • There is a pair on Guardian Peak just behind where you arrive by way of fast travel on a table next to a chair overlooking lake mead, they are unusable due to their condition but there
  • Ranger Station Echo has a pair sitting on a crate at the top of some wood steps. They are 'free', and do not have to be stolen.
  • They are sometimes found on legion explorers.

Notes

  • When you view a location through binoculars, a marker for that location will be added to your map.
  • Binoculars are classed as a one-handed melee weapon by your Pip-Boy despite the fact that it cannot be used as a weapon, as such they will also be confiscated when entering casinos.
  • As well as this, they make the "clunk" sound normally associated with melee weapons when picked up from the floor
  • When equipped with the Binoculars and you press the fire button people with react like "Hey watch it!" or "Stop that!" even if there are no bullets flying out (both NPC's and Companions).
  • The condition of a pair of Binoculars, (many are found in poor condition), does not affect their effectiveness. They can be repaired with weapons repair kits.
