You're standing in front of the Citadel, headquarters to the Brotherhood of Steel. Capital Wasteland detachment.

Paladin Bael is a Brotherhood of Steel paladin in charge of guarding the entrance to the Citadel in 2277.

Background[]

Bael is an experienced fighter, but his conversational skills leave something to be desired. However, his commanding presence ensures that unwanted visitors stay well away from the Citadel's entrance.[Non-game 1]

Although he is initially dismissive and hostile towards the Lone Wanderer and their abilities, as he would be towards any other wastelander,[1][2][3] he changes his tune upon their surprising return from the depths of Vault 87 and the Enclave-controlled Raven Rock.[4] After the Battle of Project Purity, he ceases to guard the gate.

Daily schedule[]

Bael guards the Citadel's gate until Take it Back! is completed.

References[]

  1. The Lone Wanderer: "What can you tell me about the Brotherhood of Steel?"
Paladin Bael: "I can see you're trying to appeal to my good nature. Pity for you I don't have one. I'll give you this one for free we use our big guns to kill big Super Mutants, so people like you can sleep at night."
    (Paladin Bael's dialogue)
  2. The Lone Wanderer: "Anything about the Super Mutants I should know?"
Paladin Bael: "Yeah, the city ruins are crawling with them. They've pretty much overrun all of old D.C. Do yourself, and us, a favor and stay as far away from there as humanly possible. Definitely no place for civilians."
    (Paladin Bael's dialogue)
  3. The Lone Wanderer: "I can come in now... right?"
Paladin Bael: "That's an affirmative. You're clear to enter. But I still don't like it. Or you."
    (Paladin Bael's dialogue)
  4. Paladin Bael: "You! You're back! We... We all thought... you know. Look, Elder Lyons and the others are assembled in the lab. There's talk of assaulting the purifier. You'd better get down there right away."
    (Paladin Bael's dialogue)

Non-game

  1. Fallout 3 Official Game Guide Game of the Year Edition p.89:
    "Paladin Bael:
Bael is a worthy fighter, but he hasn't mastered the fine art of conversation, a shortfall that almost led to an altercation with a Megaton resident. Still, his a commanding presence ensures that undesirables stay well away from the entrance gates."
