[edit] Behind the scenes

  • The name of this rifle is probably a reference to a backwater part of the country. That is, an isolated and backward place, and given the amount of inbred humans one faces in Point Lookout, it can be reasonably said that Point Lookout is a backwater region. Not only this, but Point Lookout is also somewhat of a swampland.
  • This weapon could also be a reference to a rifle that has been "backwatered" which means that if there is a liquid source in the barrel of a rifle, the gunpowder would mix in with the water, making the weapon "useless."
