- This is the only companion perk which can be unlocked via leveling up, the rest must be gained by earning the companion's respect.
- Dogmeat already automatically tries to hold enemies without the need for rank 1 of this perk. However, you do not get bonus VATS accuracy, which is the true benefit for the first rank of this perk.
- This perk is unique in offering actual damage reduction instead of a set amount of damage resistance. It offers an increasing amount of effective damage resistance depending on the player's damage resistance. The only other perk that offers actual damage reduction is Lone Wanderer.
