Tanya Christoff AKA the AntAgonizer is a 27-year old[1] quest character in Fallout 3 located in the Canterbury Commons. She possesses control over giant ants and is fighting her nemesis, the Mechanist. She is dressed in an ant costume, emulating a comical supervillainess style persona.

[edit] Character

Talking to Joe Porter reveals that her name is Tanya Christoff and also reveals her background.

Her family was killed by ants when she was young, and she has since taken on the belief that ants are superior to humans, citing their instinctual willingness to work together to accomplish goals unlike humans' desire to kill one another through warfare.

A terminal in Hubris Comics contains a letter to the editor that mentions the AntAgonizer as one of Grognak the Barbarian's villains. The letter expresses sadness as the villain was "never developed fully". The AntAgonizer's background story matches the comic book and she was to appear in Grognak and the Ants of Agony, but the comic was thrown out due to bad writing. The author of that letter mentions Mr. Moorellis, a reference to the well-known comic book writers Alan Moore and Warren Ellis.

[edit] Quest

The Lone Wanderer can receive a quest to stop the AntAgonizer's battle with the Mechanist. The quest has two paths by which to proceed:

  1. The Lone Wanderer can convince the AntAgonizer to halt the attack by one of three ways. You will need to perform the side quests of asking the townspeople about the AntAgonizer before you are offered the dialogue to pacify her.
    1. Reading the letter in the Hubris Comics terminal before encountering the AntAgonizer
      1. Or Alternatively, talking to the bar tender at the diner in Cantebury Commons allows you to learn the AntAgonizers real name is Tanya, thus allowing you to conduct the Speech check
    2. By performing a Speech check (which, incidentally, is the hardest you'll encounter in the game. To calculate you exact chance of success, multiply your Charisma with your Speech skill, and then divide by 420).
    3. By having the Lady Killer perk
The player can then take the AntAgonizer's Costume to the Mechanist and exchange it for the Protectron's Gaze unique gun.
2. The Lone Wanderer can instead convince or kill the Mechanist to obtain his costume. After you speak with Derek in Canterbury Commons and have the perk Child at Heart, you can use Child at Heart on the Mechanist and he will give up his costume. The Mechanist's Costume can then be exchanged with the AntAgonizer for the Ant's Sting unique knife. This results in Bad Karma.

If the player attempts to talk to the AntAgonizer while wearing the Mechanist's costume, she will attack even after agreeing to give up her life as the AntAgonizer.

[edit] Notes

  • After resolving this quest, the AntAgonizer will leave via the back entrance to her lair and walk off into the Wastes. She may disappear instantly if you attempt to follow her. Alternatively, she may attack a Yao Guai with a Ripper, but die in a brief fight. The Ripper will be on her corpse.
  • Through either pickpocketing or looting her corpse, Human Flesh can be found in the AntAgonizer's inventory.
  • If you talk to her before obtaining the Mechanist's Costume she will send you away to get it. She then may leave her lair and wander around the wasteland, hard to find again.
  • If you help the Mechanist during this quest, she can be found wandering the wasteland with her ants, thus allowing you to obtain both costumes. But she will be very hard to find.
  • If you side with the AntAgonizer during this quest, there is a random encounter later on in which you find the AntAgonizer and a group of her ants attacking a group of Wastelanders. The AntAgonizer is neutral towards you, but will turn hostile if you attack her or her ants.
  • If you convince the Mechanist to stop fighting during the quest, you may also find the AntAgonizer attacking group of Wastelanders, but she was hostile.
  • If you kill the AntAgonizer before speaking to her, 4 Giant Soldier Ants will spawn behind you. (Confirmed PC, PS3 and 360).
  • If you go to either lairs before viewing the opening scene they will not be there. You can however put Frag Mines on the spawn points and come back to bits of both characters.
  • If you convince the AntAgonizer to leave, approaching her without interacting with her will still result in her claiming "You are in the presence of ant royalty".
  • The AntAgonizer can possibly be found to the way North where the start of the add-on The Pitt is. She is attacking 1 of 3 wastelanders with a posse of ants.

[edit] Behind the scenes

  • AntAgonizer is possibly a reference to Antagone of the Adult Swim program Frisky Dingo. Antagone gains super strength and the ability to command ants after being exposed to radioactive goo.
  • AntAgonizer's costume resembles the Japanese Superhero Kamen Rider.
  • Upon reading the "Letters to the Editor" entry of the Hubris Comics Receptionist Terminal, you will discover that the AntAgonizer was a character in a Grognak the Barbarian comic titled "Grognak and the Ants of Agony".
  • The Antagonizer's costume design is very similiar to Amalgam comics (A fusion of Marvel and DC comics during the 1990's) character Insect Queen http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Insect_Queen_(Amalgam_Comics)
