The android component, or neuro-servo,[1] is a quest item found in Fallout 3.

Background[]

These internal components are used inside "androids" (synths) developed by the Institute. According to Dr. Zimmer, they are unique to advanced androids like A3-21 (i.e. generation 3 synths) and would not be removable unless the android it was taken from had already been killed. However, this is untrue: according to Victoria Watts from the Railroad, an android component was successfully removed from A3-21 without causing his death.[2] Furthermore, androids have more than one of these components, as A3-21 still possesses one which can be removed on death even though Victoria Watts had already extracted one from him.

Characteristics[]

The android component is a fully weightless and valueless item used for The Replicated Man. Appearance-wise, the component looks like a 10A power fuse, identical to the fuse used to restore power to the Jefferson Memorial during The Waters of Life.

Related quest[]

  • The Replicated Man: The player character will acquire an android component from Victoria Watts and is given the option of using it to convince Dr. Zimmer that the missing android he is looking for is dead. Android components will be considered as quest items until The Replicated Man is completed or failed.

Locations[]

Android components can only be found on characters related to The Replicated Man:

  • Harkness will drop one if he is killed.
  • Armitage will drop one if he is killed.
  • Dr. Zimmer will drop one if he is killed.
  • Victoria Watts will give one to the player character when she tracks them down during the quest. She does not carry it on her person; the item is given via a quest script.

Notes[]

  • Though it no longer serves any purpose, this item is still found in the game files for Fallout: New Vegas.

  1. The Lone Wanderer: "The android is dead. See, here's an internal component. <Lie.>"
Dr. Zimmer: "What? Let me see that! This is a Neuro-Servo... Unique to the A3-21... I... And you say you got this from his corpse? I suppose there's no other way you could have obtained it. Well... damn it. I was afraid this would happen, out here in this, this... Wasteland. Well. Here's 50 caps for your troubles. Try to buy yourself an education out here in this hell. Good day."

  2. The Lone Wanderer: "What would you have me do?"
Victoria Watts: "You really want to help? Take this. It's an internal component from the very android you're searching for. Don't ask how I obtained it. Present it to Doctor Zimmer in Rivet City. Tell him the android is dead, and that was on the corpse. He'll believe you. Do that, and Zimmer will go back to the Commonwealth, and leave that poor soul alone. Do that, and you'll have saved a man's life."
