His professed occupation is closest to what was once known as a "lawyer."— Character selection description

Albert Cole is an inhabitant of Vault 13 in 2161 and one of the three pre-made player characters available during character creation at the beginning of Fallout.

Background

Albert is a charismatic leader of a small, vocal minority of the Vault population that is considering life on the outside world. Dedicated to the role of a negotiator, he is often able to communicate efficiently between different parties. His professed occupation is closest to what was once known as a "lawyer." Albert is often able to convince others that his ideas are correct.

Notes

He is designed to provide a diplomatic, as opposed to a combative or stealthy, approach to solving the central conflict in the game: the Master.

Appearances

Albert only makes an appearance in Fallout.

Behind the scenes

  • The name of Albert may be a reference to the post-apocalyptic film A Boy and His Dog. The titular dog, Blood, a psionically-gifted canine, often calls the titular boy "Albert" despite the fact that it is not his real name. The film was later shown at A Post-Apocalyptic Film Festival, a film festival held to promote the release of Fallout 3.
  • The Lone Wanderer in Fallout 3 previews is named "Albert".
  • Troika Games' Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscure features a small quest referencing the main plotline of Fallout. Here, Albert is a magick practitioner from the secluded city of Tulla, sent on a quest to retrieve a water gem for the community. When the player encounters him, he has been cast out of the city, due to the influence the outside world has had upon him during his travels. Notably, both Tim Cain and Leonard Boyarsky worked on Arcanum.
