Adytum

From The Vault

Jump to: navigation, search

Adytum or Adytown is a small industrial town in the southern section of the Boneyard. It is lead by Mayor Jon Zimmerman, a generally well-meaning if not particularly savvy man. Order is harshly enforced by the Regulators. A major product of Adytum is ammunition: the propellants are manufactured under the direction of a chemist named Miles, whereas the casings are fitted by the mechanic Smitty. Previously, Adytum grew its own food in underground, mushroom-producing hydroponic farms. However, recently several parts of the farms systems have broken down, a problem for which Miles is searching for a solution. Until the hydroponic farms are fixed, Adytum acquires most of its food by trading ammunition with The Hub. Adytum is also home to several scavengers, headed by Sammael, who comb the Boneyard for lost treasures.

[edit] Comments

It is not known what is the canon outcome of Vault Dweller's adventures in the Boneyard. The only available piece of information comes from the Vault Dweller's memoirs: I found many enemies, and a few friends, in the Boneyard. I killed when necessary and learned more about the nature of my true foes. It is not known for certain, however, whether he did uncover the assasination of Zimmerman's son by the Regulators and their attempt at putting their blame on the Blades, and whether he freed Adytum from Regulator rule. We don't even know if he killed the deathclaws, so it is entirely possible that Adytum joined the NCR under the control of Regulators, after the Vault Dweller was fooled into killing the Blades.

[edit] References

Adytum is a reference to The Builders of the Adytum (B.O.T.A), a Qabalah religious organisation based out of Los Angeles. Particularly, one of their beliefs is the use of Tarot.

The mushrooms grown in Adytum may be a reference to the speculation that the "manna" eaten by the Israelites during their time in the desert was actually a psilocybin-containing mushroom. Whereas the B.O.T.A. do explore higher states of consciousness, there is no direct connection to them about mushrooms, with the possible exception of this article.

[edit] Appearances in games

Adytum appears only in the original Fallout.
