Across the Wastes

Fallout 3 Giveaway

Wersja polska

How it worksEdit

Simply navigate from Vault 13 to Vault 101 with 7 clicks or less,
visiting at least one place from each Fallout along the way!
Follow me if you can!

The goal of the contest was to make it from Vault 13 (the starting location in Fallout) to Vault 101 (the starting location in Fallout 3) in seven clicks or less. The contentants had to simply navigate from the Vault 13 article to the Vault 101 one by clicking on article links within the wiki's articles about the Fallout world and games.

On your way to Vault 101, the contestants also needed to visit at least one location from each Fallout game (Fallout, Fallout 2, Fallout 3), not counting Vault 13 and Vault 101. Other articles on your route do not have to be locations, but you can only use each article once. Every location that appears in more than one game counts for only one of them. Categories, templates and other special pages don't count.

Rules and regulationsEdit

  • The contest ran from October 27 to November 3, 2008.
  • There will be one drawing for each of the prize types.
  • Winners will be notified via email.
  • If prize is unclaimed after 72 hours of notification to the email address provided, another participant will be picked at random.
  • Admin Ausir will be administering the sweepstakes with the help of Wikia Staff members, and is not an eligible participant.
  • You can use either the English or the Polish version of the wiki for the contest (but you can't enter the contest twice by sending a route for both Polish and English Vault - only one will be counted).
  • Official rules and legal mumbo jumbo can be found here.

Vault 13>Overseer>Vault 101 Overseer>Vault 101---3 clicks12.207.171.121 15:58, 10 November 2008 (UTC)i don't have username and contest is already over so it sucks for me

@ Comments above: First of all, post in the order as you see below. Second, neither would work. It says PLACES. You can use the Fallout games, but you still need two LOCATIONS in Fallout, 1 in Fallout 2, and 2 in Fallout 3, if you count V13 and V101. 17:56, 14 November 2008 (UTC)

Are there going to be pages you can't use? Because the timeline is kinda cheating. And I see you already thought of the military base, Ausir :P --Macros 11:07, 24 October 2008 (UTC)

All articles can be used. You can't use templates, special pages, etc. But every article can only be used once. Ausir 11:12, 24 October 2008 (UTC)
What if someone edits an article to make a shortcut? --Macros 11:17, 24 October 2008 (UTC)
Well, if that edit doesn't make sense in that article or is a stretch, I'll remove it and it won't be allowed. If it does, I think it's OK. Ausir 11:41, 24 October 2008 (UTC)
I am sceptical about any edit caused by contest purposes. Including yours - Ausir (my PC is to weak to instal F3 there :)).--dotz 14:14, 24 October 2008 (UTC)
Well, I'm not taking part in the contest myself. :) Ausir 14:25, 24 October 2008 (UTC)

Does a game overview article (i.e. fallout 1, 2 or 3) count as a special page?

No, they count as regular articles and can be used as part of your route. Ausir 23:59, 27 October 2008 (UTC)

Does the Capital Wasteland count as a location or a general area?

Anything that is in a "Fallout 3 places", "Fallout 2 places" etc. category counts. Ausir 00:21, 28 October 2008 (UTC)

It says int the legalese that you need to include the following w/ your emailed entry: 0) Email subject line "Fallout 3: Across the Wastes" 1) Name 2) Address 3) Phone number

This is a bit more than what's listed on the contest page:

Just wanted to make sure it's clear. Thanks -- PK

You'll just have to supply the rest of the info only if you are picked as one of the winners. Ausir 01:50, 28 October 2008 (UTC)

Do Vault 13/101 count as Fallout 1/3 locations? or do you mean 'in addition to'?

Yes, there has to be one location from each game in addition to V13/101. Ausir 02:41, 28 October 2008 (UTC)

2 questions, can i get the prizes if i live in the uk? and can i use vault 101 twice? Orio11

Yes and no, respectively. Ausir 12:18, 28 October 2008 (UTC)
Thank you Orio11 12:28, 28 October 2008 (UTC)

If your an idiot and sent the wrong info (e.g. didn't put you name or country of residence) first time round can you resend?

My question: Since Categories like Fallout 2 places can be used, can Category:Vaults be used? -- (Middle Man 15:31, 28 October 2008 (UTC))

You can't use categories at all in your route, only articles within these categories. Ausir 15:50, 28 October 2008 (UTC)

Does Vault 101 count as a click as well? Elektr0 18:32, 28 October 2008 (UTC)

Yes. Ausir 18:34, 28 October 2008 (UTC)

Thanks! I got it now. :) Elektr0 19:04, 28 October 2008 (UTC)

How about locations that appear in two of the games? Do i have to list an additional location to one of the games or does that one location cover one location in both games?

You can use a location only for one game. You'll have to find another one for the other game. Ausir 14:51, 29 October 2008 (UTC)

Do Shady Sands and NCR count as different locations? They're... sort of the same city, but vastly changed between games, aren't they? MidnightVoyager 16:03, 29 October 2008 (UTC)

I suppose I could count them as separate locations - Shady Sands as the town, and NCR as the emerging state. Ausir 16:09, 29 October 2008 (UTC)

I asked this in my email, but I'll ask it here too- can I submit more than one entry if I find more than one route? Also, just for kicks, I went and found a reverse route. Would it be cool to post the return? Hactarcomputer 21:38, 29 October 2008 (UTC)

Only one entry for each person counts. Ausir 21:44, 29 October 2008 (UTC)
That completely makes sense. Oh well, no harm asking. Hactarcomputer 21:46, 29 October 2008 (UTC)

Just along side MidnightVoyager's question, would I still be able to use Shady Sands for my FO2 area? Gibbonia 11:02, 30 October 2008 (UTC)

Yes, but then you won't be able to use it for FO1. Ausir 14:13, 30 October 2008 (UTC)

If there is only one winner for each prize type, then why mention that you have more than one of each? Why say you have 5 copies of Fallout 3, 50 guides, etc? Also, does the capital wasteland count as a location from Fallout 3? It's a location... just a large one. Twilight Heaven 9:02, 30 October 2008 (UTC)

There will be one drawing for each prize type, but as many winners as there are prizes. Don't ask me what it means, but all 50 guides won't go to one guy. 14:13, 30 October 2008 (UTC)
Well unless I'm reading it wrong, I understand it as there will only be 5 winners. There are 4 prizes so there will be 5 winners. Or is it a specific number of winners for a certain prize? Like do they draw 50 times for the guide and 5 for Fallout 3? I'm confused -_- Twilight Heaven 11:06, 30 October 2008 (UTC)

I screwed up my submission, which was missing a location. Can I re-submit it? CRoss 16:08, 30 October 2008 (UTC)

Yes, but say so in the e-mail. Ausir 16:13, 30 October 2008 (UTC)
1 November

Can I use the vault article on my journey, not the category, but the article? Mr. Peanut(Not a member)

You mean the Vault article? Yes. Ausir 16:00, 1 November 2008 (UTC)

Do the locations you have to visit be in order? In other words, must you visit a FO1 location before a FO2? Firefly89 18:07, 1 November 2008 (UTC)

No. Ausir 18:19, 1 November 2008 (UTC)
Does the competition run up to (and including) the 3rd of November and if it does then at what time (and time zone) does it close. if it's already closed then the page should probably be marked as such. Cheers Lokal_Profil 14:35, 3 November 2008 (UTC)
It's still on. The winners will be selected tomorrow. I'll mark the page as such when it's over. Ausir 14:48, 3 November 2008 (UTC)
I just submitted thirty seconds ago upon discovering this contest, do I count? D: Kobura Cape 08:15, 4 November 2008 (UTC)

Any news on when winners will be released? 20:04, 4 November 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for taking partEdit

The event has now ended, stay tuned for winners :). We'll start mailing out notices this week, so be sure to check your inbox (and spam folders) for instructions on how to claim your prize. Once all email's have been mailed, and winners confirmed, we will post the winners here. Hope you all had fun playing! -- Doug@fandom (talk) 01:27, 5 November 2008 (UTC)

Unfortunatelly i'm too late. I would have taken: Vault_13->Vault_15->Enclave->Capital_Wasteland->Vault_101 with only 4 klicks. 21:13, 7 November 2008 (UTC)

Any idea when the winners will be posted? Have any of them been emailed? 22:25, 7 November 2008 (UTC)

Emails are making their rounds now. Inside info. Taza 23:07, 7 November 2008 (UTC)
Still no winners posted, or did I miss them somewhere?
Still nothing? Can we get an update? (NotSoSimple 20:04, 11 November 2008 (UTC))
Did I win?-- 14:00, 12 November 2008 (UTC)
A status update would be great.
And we still have nothing. Did anyone receive an email? (NotSoSimple 18:27, 13 November 2008 (UTC))

@ - And your entry would not have been accepted for not meeting the contest requirements. @ Contest Officials - It would be cool to know stats for the contest, ie how many entrants, how many valid paths, how many took 7 clicks, 6, 5, etc.

Why would that not meet the contest requirements? The links all exist, Vault 15 is in fallout places, Enclave is in fallout 2 places, and Capital Wasteland is in fallout 3 places. Looks like a perfectly legitimate path to me. Tetracycloide 16:56, 12 November 2008 (UTC)
I'm very anxious; I'm checking my e-mail several times a day! I hope I win... :) Z4xx0r 6:12, 12 November 2008 (UTC)
Enclave isn't a place- its an organization. Their oil rig, however, is a place.

Where are the emails? Give me my t-shirt or give me death!! Panek 20:02, 14 November 2008 (UTC)

Still nothing, 12 days later. I wonder what's going on.
Was the contest canceled, or am I just missing something? 05:47, 17 November 2008 (UTC)
The original winning emails were sent out 11/5 and confirmed on 11/13. Please check your inbox and spam folders if you haven't done so already.
