For an overview of .223 pistols in the Fallout universe, see .223 pistol. |
The 5.56mm pistol is a weapon added with the Fallout: New Vegas add-on Gun Runners' Arsenal.
Characteristics
The 5.56mm pistol is the base variant of That Gun. When compared to That Gun, it is cleaner, has a more intact black finish, two small red LEDs on the side, and a large pale green LED on the back.
Unlike That Gun, the 5.56mm pistol is considered an improved holdout weapon, and thus can be concealed with a Sneak skill of 50 or higher.
Along with its unique variant, it is the only pistol in the game that loads armor piercing ammunition that doesn't require the Hand Loader perk to fabricate.
Durability
The 5.56mm pistol can fire a total of about 870 standard rounds, or 174 reloads, from full condition before breaking.
Ammunition type | Durability | |
---|---|---|
Shots | Reloads | |
Standard, HP, AP & match | 870 | 174 |
Surplus | 287 | 58 |
.223 caliber round | 1089 | 218 |
Variants
- That Gun, the unique version of the 5.56mm pistol found in the base game.

Notes
- It may be used for the challenges Benefit Or a Hazard, Dyin' Ain't Much of a Living and Vault 13's Revenge.
- Before the release of Gun Runners' Arsenal, That Gun was the only 5.56mm pistol available.
- The Pip-Boy icon for the 5.56mm pistol is different from That Gun's icon, despite no major model change, other than skin and LED color.
Behind the scenes
Like its unique variant That Gun, the 5.56mm pistol is modeled on the pistol used by Rick Deckard, the main character of the film Blade Runner. This version differs considerably in proportions, and lacks the bolt handle, ejection port, and second trigger.
