The 12.7mm pistol is a weapon in Fallout: New Vegas.

Background[]

Main article: SIG-Sauer pistol

A large framed semi-automatic pistol, the SIG-Sauer 14mm autopistol was imported alongside matching 14mm ammunition to the U.S. in limited quantities.[1][Non-game 1] This powerful weapon and its ammunition was relatively uncommon, and could be rechambered to accept other, more common high powered cartridges.[Non-game 2]

A Sig-Sauer autopistol rechambered to use 12.7mm ammunition, this variant has a seven-round capacity. Similar to the 14mm pistol, it has good stopping power, but has wider spread and higher skill requirements than most other pistols.[Non-game 2]

Characteristics[]

12.7mm pistol expanded

The 12.7mm pistol fires and reloads like a 9mm pistol but does much higher damage. It has the third-highest base damage-per-second (DPS) value of any non-energy pistol in Fallout: New Vegas, bested only by A Light Shining in Darkness (144.4) Honest Hearts and Lil' Devil (146.3) Gun Runners' Arsenal. The drawbacks are poor accuracy (it has the highest weapon spread of any pistol in the game, comparable to even some automatic weapons) and that it is not considered a holdout weapon.

Durability[]

The 12.7mm pistol has the same durability as the less powerful 10mm pistol; it can fire a total of about 395 standard rounds, the equivalent of 57 reloads, from full condition before breaking.

Locations[]

Behind the scenes[]

  • The 12.7mm pistol is a reimagining of the classic 14mm pistol from both Fallout and Fallout 2, with the caliber changed from 14mm to 12.7mm, so that players would intuit its real life equivalent to the .50 AE. pistol cartridge.[Non-game 2]
    • This pistol in New Vegas has its magazine loaded into the grip like most conventional handguns, such as the 9mm pistol, rather than being inserted into a well located ahead of the trigger as was the case with the Fallout and Fallout 2 version.
  • The files for the 12.7mm pistol's firing sounds refers it as "pistolhowda." A "howdah" often is the term used to describe a large-caliber, break-action pistol.
    • Texture and mesh files name the 12.7mm as "booyah."
