Hi Folks;

Given that this site is now having its WowWiki moment. I think there's a little housekeeping that needs to be done here.

Firstly; Cards on the table. I'm not an Admin; moderator; or any other elected position... But someone has to say something.

I think there are two immediate issues that the community need to answer or have answered now.

1: First and foremost. Given other recent splits from Wiki I think its safe to assume that there is going to be a mass desertion in the officialdom ranks. Can I respectfully ask any current Beurocrats; Administrators; Chat Moderators; Moderators; or anyone with rollback rights who intends on staying "Here" to please make themselves known in this thread. I think its only fair enough so the community can take stock.

2: Name and Logo. As indicated in Ausir's post the original creation of the vault predates its association with Wikia and has taken a claim to the brand including the name and logo. I can see on Ausir's talk page there has been a request from Sanse for him to stop making changes to the title or removing the logo. As such; I think those members of the community who are remaining here should now open the discussion to a new name and new logo for this wiki. "The Vault" is always going to be a name associated with its founders whereas Wikia in its internal advertising for this wiki always seems to refer to it as "Fallout Wiki" or "Fallout 3 Wiki". Does anyone have any suggestions for a new name and logo? Agent c 00:44, November 22, 2011 (UTC)

I will still be active here, or at least as active as I usually am. As for the name and the rest of it, I don't think Fallout Wiki is a good choice, simply because the Vault's new address is falloutwiki. Concerning the logo, I'm open to anything except the one in place right now. It's pretty ugly. BILLYOCEAN Wanna talk? 03:36, November 22, 2011 (UTC)
I will also be around, just not really adding any content; mostly making sure users stay within the scope of site policy (maybe finish my stub removing project). Otherwise, I'll still be round, but much, much less active. --Kastera (talk) 03:42, November 22, 2011 (UTC)
A few suggestions for new name: Fallout Universe; Fallout World; Post Apocalyptia; Vault Zero; Vault Dweller's Survival Guide; The Wastelands; Wasteland Survival Guide; Vault-Tec; G.E.C.K.ipedia. I think this should be put up to a vote, after a short, but reasonable amount of time passes for things to settle back down.--The Gunny 03:53, November 22, 2011 (UTC)
G.E.C.K.ipedia sounds nice, has a sort of nice acronym-y feeling like UESP has, and I still think we need to be like UESP more. Maybe take the periods out. :/ Nitty Tok. 05:11, November 22, 2011 (UTC)
I may not be a Admin or anything, but I'll be staying just for the sake of trying to keep this site in order. More than likely people will come to this site over our new one since people trust this site or have grown accustomed to being able to rely on this site. I'll stay for a little while. ToCxHawK 04:51, November 22, 2011 (UTC)
I come for the chat. Until we get a reliable one at the Vault, that's where you'll find me. As for edits, I don't see the point of adding new info here when I might as well be adding it to the Vault. Yes Man defaultUser Avatar talk 04:55, November 22, 2011 (UTC)
Oh, almost forgot! I'll be sticking around for, like, experimentation and general cleanup. I still want to bring the capital letters back to article titles and Wikia still has a better functioning array of templates until Porter works his magic. Nitty Tok. 05:16, November 22, 2011 (UTC)

Just to prevent further disagreements: 1: I'd like to thank those with ranks who have put their cards on the table so far. I hope none objects to my "acting above my station" here but its in the interests of both sites to get things sorted on both ends. I'd like to encourage anyone with ranks as yet to do so to post here if they intend on staying or splitting their time. 2: I'm going to create a new poll now with the question asking for community approval to temporarily officially change the name of this wiki to "Fallout Wiki" until such time as the community can agree to a new name; logo; and branding. Those remaining admins can then consider this community feedback and act accordingly and should prevent a possible edit war over titles. 3: I'd like to encourage more suggestions for names and logos (not to say that there aren't some great suggestions here already.... I particularly like GECKiPedia. After a week or two we can then open a new poll to indicate preferences on name. Agent c 16:54, November 22, 2011 (UTC)

Yes, that'd be for the best. A new name for a new site based on The Vault's database, rather than limiting Wikia's Fallout wiki's growth by forcing it to emulate The Vault. And with respect to service mark rights granted to The Vault by US law. Personal_Sig_Image.gif Tagaziel (call!) 17:07, November 22, 2011 (UTC)
I would like to point out that such name suggestions as Vault-Tec, are trademarks owned by Bethesda. User:AvatarUser talk:Avatar 17:12, November 22, 2011 (UTC)
  • I'm staying around here to see nothing bad happens to this wiki. I feel obstructed adding new content though as there's a copied site just around the corner doing the same thing. Like Yes-Man says, what's the point. And I'm not particularly motivated anymore. I haven't activated my account on FalloutWiki.com yet, don't know if I will. Right now I'm not feeling in the mood for that. As for the name, I don't like GECKipedia (xbox users may not even know what GECK is) and I don't like the current logo either. Fallout Universe is closer to home or just stick to the plain, strong Fallout Wiki. With the Vault Dweller (infobox image) in place of the Vault door. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 15:23, November 23, 2011 (UTC)
If they played any of the Fallouts besides New Vegas, they should known what a GECK is. ;3 Nitty Tok. 16:19, November 23, 2011 (UTC)
I think he's referring to the editor in this instance.--Kingclyde 00:34, November 30, 2011 (UTC)
Well, they're all my suggestions, but I like Fallout Universe the most. It encompasses all of the games, even those "less than canon" and has two things I think are important: 1. It starts with Fallout. Don't know if this helps with search engine results or not (I don't know a damn thing about that stuff) but it immediately identifies what this site is to anyone. 2. The Fallout universe is what I consider the common name for the entirety of all Fallout lore. When explaining something to another person about things of a Fallout nature, I often use "Well, in the Fallout universe..." as a qualifier. A compendium of all that comprises Fallout lore is, essentially, the Fallout Universe.--The Gunny 21:38, November 23, 2011 (UTC)
As long as you don't take Wasteland Survival Guide, I'm good with anything. I won't be having anyone steal my wiki's name. Sombar1 04:46, November 26, 2011 (UTC)
I would imagine that any name proposed, if put forth by the community to wikia for replacement, would be thoroughly vetted. That's the whole reason for the proposed name change in the first place. This wikia needs it's own identity.--The Gunny 17:34, November 26, 2011 (UTC)
Maybe a good idea if someone with appropriate authority approaches Matt Grandstaff at Bethesda to see what objections/guidance they can offer regarding Bethesda owned trademarks. Agent c 01:11, November 28, 2011 (UTC)
I'll contact him and see if Pete has any issues with names like "Fallout Universe" of "Geckipedia". Legally, I think we're clear to use names like that. I don't know about images.--The Gunny 01:24, November 28, 2011 (UTC)
Update: Not that I expected anything different, but Matt Grandstaff answered my inquiry about any issues with the suggested names with "Not that I'm aware of."--The Gunny 21:36, November 29, 2011 (UTC)

Hello again Folks... This post is more pointed at the admin-y people. I'm preparing to write another digest (I kinda like writing the news... I might keep it up if there's no objections) once the Temporary name change poll closes. I was planning on mentioning the names of admins/etc who have indicated they plan to stay active at least on some level here to help push people to the right folk for help - I was wondering if there were any objections to this? If so I'm happy to leave you out (sorry for the short notice... Just occurred to me to ask now). Additionally I was wondering if it was a good idea to maybe have one of those chat conferences scheduled so questions regarding whether we need more admins at a certain level can be discussed... If you think its a good idea I'll throw that in too. Agent c 00:22, November 29, 2011 (UTC)

I will be remaining here as one of the admins. This site has been good to me and I feel I should maintain it. I will be on The Vault as well. But mainly here will be my focus to keep this wikia afloat. There is a community here and I don't want to abandon them.--Kingclyde 01:18, November 29, 2011 (UTC)
  • First of all, thanks to people who have spoken up here, especially Gunny and Agent c. One would imagine it would be for a staying admin to step up to the plate, but this move has lowered my moodset considerably. I'm will be spending most of my time here, but still don't know if I will activate my FalloutWiki account either. For the time being, I'm not planning on applying for bureaucratship (yet). Now that all DLC's have been released, edits have become much less and one or two active admins, with the help of a few trusted users can about handle it. About your digest, I would like that, Agent c. I'm not that good with words and you seem to like it. People are always interested in news. Personally, I don't really feel for a chat conference. It's not a proper medium and too fast paced to discuss important subjects like more admins. This is more something for the forum, where things can be thought through. If people want to apply for adminship and meet the requirements, they can, but probably it would be better to wait for that till the dust about this move has settled (name, logo etc.). Unless they're sure about staying here. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 21:20, November 29, 2011 (UTC)
I have thought this through a little more over the past few days and I think I will make a majority of my edits here. Any major updates and I will check the new wiki and make the same edits. But I feel I need to remain here to support the community.--Kingclyde 00:34, November 30, 2011 (UTC)
Glad to hear it. It's good to know I have some admin backup. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 00:44, November 30, 2011 (UTC)
Declared active admins have been featured in my most recent news post (doesn't seem to be appearing on the front page for me; but is when I click on more...). If there are any corrections; additions or removals required please either let me know or feel free to edit directly if you have the access. By my count however we have no declared Bureaucrats "staying" which doesn't sound like a great place to be... Agent c 04:22, November 30, 2011 (UTC)
  • The only thing bureaucrats can do more than admins, is grant and revoke admin rights. Wouldn't worry about it too much, as long as there are a few admins here. If there's a need for a bureaucrat or admin, Wikia can grant the rights. It is a shame of course we don't have the leaving bureaucrat's expertise anymore, like Porters knowledge of CSS/JS and templates. That could cause a problem in the future. For now, thanks for your blog-post, it's much appreciated! We need to keep this place alive. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 12:33, November 30, 2011 (UTC)
Jspoel, if you do have problems with CSS/JS and so on, there are people on the support team that may be able to help. User:Grunny is part of the team, and is also a Wookieepedia admin who deals with a lot of their (very complex) code. I can ask him to help if and when you need it -- sannse WikiaStaff.png (help forum | blog) 01:15, December 1, 2011 (UTC)
  • Thanks, Sannse. This was the kind of support I was hoping for from Wikia in these dire times. There are already some issues, I think we'll be contacting him pretty soon. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 19:20, December 1, 2011 (UTC)
