It was because Japan got pissed at Bethesda
America was all happy and minding it's own business before Japan poked the Bear...err... Eagle. But America did expect to get drawn in so they were up to full strength waiting to lend to crushing blow.
And the way Japan treated POWs was horrible. But as Marauder says, war does not determine who is right. When you look at which country is "right" it's the better of all evils. Except maybe Canada. They are always right.
^I agree with that. I'd say it was one of the few times America was being peaceful and minding it's own business. It's a shame the leading countries never seem to be able to do that for long.
America didn't liberate anyone? I think the Philippines and South Korea would disagree with that assessment.
For the record, you would have to try really hard to offend me Husky. I enjoy out discussions.
Likewise, TSR. It's been a while since our last debate. Well.. here goes:
The only reason that the Korean War even played out the way it did was because the United Nations decided to get involved and turn an indirect proxy war into an all-out hellscape. Russia, China, Mongolia, India and the Eastern Bloc got involved as a result, too. I dare say if America hadn't been involved the situation may be different today, however it wasn't singlehandedly America and they were involved purely to stop the spread of Communism, not because they were advocating world peace or order.
Looking at the Philippines, we only have to look at the present day leadership in that country to see that America's actions were next to inconsequential as the very thing they fought against was simply replaced by a tyrannical pro-American administration, replacing the opposed tyrannical anti-American administration. America has made a habit of supporting dictators in the past, including Cuba's Batista dictatorship. I dare say that they endorsed other dictators, as well.
I've held off mentioning the Vietnam War as it's a touchy subject and not all that pleasant, but America essentially went there to stop the spread of Communism (again) and outright supported a dictatorship under Ngo Dinh Diem that was masquerading as a legitimate democratic state. It was so awful and shambolic, Diem was assassinated by non-Communists and was replaced by his goon, Nguyen Van Thieu.
In essence, these actions are the literal embodiment of everything the Founding Fathers and revolutionaries fought against. It has become the monster it swore to stand watch for. And such a waste of an opportunity America became.
(I'm not a straight up America hater, ask me about the cons of any nation and you'll get similar feedback when it comes to their shortcomings, including my own country.)
I was more specifically referring to our actions during the second World War. I'm well aware that we've been a bit of a mess sense then.
But then, hasn't everyone?
Not nearly on the scale of America, sadly. America did more than a few major oopsies.
I have read that book, I think it's fascinating how families in the US behave, and how a Roosevelt from so long ago could affect the Roosevelt administration later on. I find it laughable that such individuals would promote such crap when America is built upon immigrants from all backgrounds.
You must have a Japanese version, in that version the fat man and its mod little boy were both were changed becuase if there coralstion to the bombs dropped on Hiroshima and takanowna
^What the Hell is a 'Takanowna'? Haha. Do you mean the neighbourhood of Takanawa in Tokyo? It was bombed, but not by an atom bomb. I think you mean Nagasaki.
Yeah I ment Nagasaki, I must forgot and guessed, horribly
